Help Us Build Our Small Vegetable Farm in Nasu (beds, hoop houses, irrigation)
We’re a Japanese–Indian couple in the peaceful countryside of Nasu, about two hours north of Tokyo. Our home sits in a serene rice-farming village with lush fields and mountain views—the seasons paint the landscape in the most beautiful ways. Life here is slower and intentional, and we’re growing a small, diverse vegetable garden that needs extra hands.
What We’re Looking For
Volunteers who are excited to work on the farm, especially:
Building vegetable beds (measuring, marking, shaping, mulching, composting)
Setting up hoop houses/low tunnels (hoops, plastic/insect netting, anchoring, ventilation)
Installing/maintaining simple irrigation (hoses, connectors, timers, leak checks)
Soil prep, weeding, planting, transplanting, staking/trellising
Harvesting and basic post-harvest handling (wash, sort, store)
Light carpentry and tool care (drills, drivers, hand saws—experience is a plus)
No pro experience required—just reliability, a good attitude, and willingness to learn. If you’ve done gardening, farming, landscaping, or DIY projects, that’s a bonus.
Typical Rhythm
We usually plan work around the weather—cooler mornings and late afternoons are best, with a rest in the middle of the day. There’s flexibility to explore between work blocks. We’ll set a weekly plan together so you know what’s coming up.
What To Expect
Physical work: lifting soil/compost, kneeling, bending; we’ll show safe techniques
All tools and materials provided
Please bring sturdy shoes/boots, sun hat, work clothes you don’t mind getting dirty, and a water bottle
Clear instructions and hands-on demos for each task
About the Dogs (Household, Not the Job)
We share our home with two loving dogs, Mili & Milo (6–
