The experience

I've lived in my family home for 31 years and it is now FULL of stuff, some mine, some my children have left behind, and it's everywhere - open a cupboard and it's full! I like to have the perfect exit strategy for everything, so do come to help me sort my life out & help things leave the house. If you can garden or paint & decorate/do odd jobs, help with cooking, spring cleaning and walking the dog, that's helpful too. Help with Spanish welcome!

Program Details

You will help me to sort and organise things in my house as well as help me take things to charity shops and the rubbish tip. If you enjoy gardening, then that is also a possiblility as I want to grow some salad and tomatoes, as well as plant things over the next few months. As spaces are cleared, rooms and cupboards will need painting, so that is also a possibility too. The work will not be arduous and will be as part of my daily life, helping with shopping and dog walking (a black Labrador) too. You will be in Lincoln, a historic city in the East Midlands area of England. We have an 11th century Cathedral and a castle. There are 2 universities, whose libraries you could use if you are a student elsewhere. You will get full board on the days you work and bed and breakfast on the other days, with use of the kitchen to prepare your meals; and possibly the opportunity to do things with my family if you wish. I teach English as a foreign language and can help you to improve by correcting you and giving you exercises to help with your problem areas.

Activities & Shift

The activities would be as above. I volunteer teach at a Welcome Cafe for local people who need to improve their English, so you would be welcome to attend that too. I still work part-time, so the shift times would vary depending on my commitments on a day-to-day basis, but would be no more than 5 hours on any of the four days you work. We are close to several larger cities and the east coast and the Peak district and a 2 hr direct train ride to London. I can cater for people with lactose or gluten intolerance and am vegetarian. There are always lots of plant-based options available too. I prefer not to cook meat, so, if you feel you cannot live without eating meat, this is probably not the best position for you.

Rules

There is no smoking in the house, but I have a garden and you may smoke there. I would not want you to bring anyone else into the house without speaking to me first. I am very keen to recycle packaging, so being careful to do this is a priority while you are in my home.
