Having stayed in the Gozo hostel, it was a steep learning curve, but I am so grateful to Rebeca, a fellow volunteer, for showing me the ropes. The most important thing I learned were cleaning standards. Every hair has to vanish. Every surface wiped. No watermarks. Return things immediately after use. Once I got accustomed, everything settled into a rhythm. I worked exactly the 4 hours a day as stipulated, and the manager, Franco, was to-the-letter with receipts and refunds. When work finished, we could go off for the day. It was a good arrangement. Franco also kindly invited us to BBQ!
