We had a very warm welcome at the tempel and were really well taken care of. Everybody was super friendly and it was very nice getting to know some fellow travellers. We were a little bit unlucly with the timing since there was no school (so we couldn't help with the teaching) and one of the monks went away for travel so the first days we were hoping to have a little bit more to do. But when we told this, they took us on a walk and arranged a day in the nearby the Center which was truly amazing and enriching in so many ways.

We had a good time. We did our voluntueering during the schoolvacations so we couldn't teach in the local schools. The first day there was not much to do, but after that we did mediation and were taken to another temple to practice meditation there and go to a dharmateaching. Everybody was really kind and wanted to help where possible. It's a really good way to learn more about Buddhism.

The perfect start to Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 We couldn't have been made to feel more welcome/cared for. Bhante Wassa and Bhante Subodhi's temples are wonderful. Both being incredible hosts. You'll feel fat and full every day learning about Sri lankan food. 🍛 Each day varies greatly so come with an open mind. It'll challenge your preception of Buddist monks and thier roles in communities. Great conversations were had, learning about Buddism, Sri Lanka and traditional stories. Sundays Dharma school is not to be missed. Thank you for all your kindness, time and generosity. Until we meet again 🙏👏

Wow, what an experience! Our first time using Worldpackers, exploring Sri Lanka, and backpacking—and it was incredible. In 4 nights, we learned so much about Sri Lankan culture, food, and Buddhism. Every day was unique, so come with an open mind. Bhante Wassa hosted us at his peaceful temple, taught us meditation, and helped plan our trip. Bhante Subhodi took us to temples, ceremonies, and even a bus trip with local kids—unforgettable! Stay 3–4 days, and don't miss Sunday school at Sammajeewa Ashram. We can't wait to return!

This position is mainly about following Bante, the monk, around and see his daily life. You can participate in several ceremonies and practice meditation together with him or alone in the temple area. You stay in a private room at a house close by the temple, whose owner are very friendly, welcoming and helping! I really enjoyed my two day stay and am grateful for this amazing experience! ✨
