The experience

The Amazon rainforest is the largest tropical forest in the world. We, the Amazon’s people and Indigenous nationalities, have been fighting for decades for our land, for biodiversity, for a decent quality of life, for the welfare of our children, for good education and health etc.
For more than 50 years we have been threatened by large mining, oil, and lumber companies etc.

Program Details

We are currently working on 2 projects:
- Conservation project in the Kichwa Uchuculin community reserve
AND
- Yaku Ñawi Project

The reserve is made up of 100 hectares of primary forest located in the upper part of the Amazon, 3 km from the Uchuculin community.
To achieve our conservation objective and start working in the area, we require collaboration and support in: logistics, identification of timber and medicinal plants, construction of a bamboo house, maintenance of trails, planting of cassava and fruit crops, creation of signage etc.
The community of Uchuculin is located 11km from the city of Tena in the province of Napo.
We have been working for more than 10 years with a volunteer program carrying out different activities.

Activities & Shift

The activities that the volunteer can perform are:
- Education: teaching English in the community or in a rural school, art, environmental awareness.
- Agriculture: food gardens, cassava (aka manioc or yuca), banana, cacao, pineapple etc.
- Construction with local materials from the area: e.g. wood and bamboo..
- Clearing trails and creating signs in the jungle.
- Mapping and monitoring new points of tourist interest.

Volunteers can also suggest their own projects related to their professions and areas of interest.

You will be able to join our tour outings as long as there is a group and it does not interfere with the volunteer activities.
