I had a good experience, I met amazing people, both volunteers and guests, and the location is great. You even get free beer! That said, communication around schedules and tasks could be improved. I worked the night shift, and while the team was kind and open to communication, the workload wasn't distributed evenly among ever, which can affect motivation. The job can be demanding and you can have a lot of responsibilities, but it's also a great way to learn if you're curious about the hospitality world. I recommend the experience as long you're flexible and open to help where needed:) Thanks!

The experience at the hostel was a mix of feelings. We had many positive moments with the team (I especially thank Camila, Léo and Bogdan for making our days better). However, in relation to work, it is clear that the hostel uses the volunteering platform as a way to obtain cheap labor, avoiding hiring and paying employees. As a volunteer, you assume responsibilities that should be assigned to an employee, and the lack of organization ends up harming the functioning of the hostel itself. On the other hand, the city of Bruges is beautiful and charming, although a little expensive.

My experience volunteering at the hostel was truly rewarding. I met fascinating people and enjoyed culturally enriching moments in a beautiful city. The work was manageable, and the owners and managers were outstanding, kind, supportive, and approachable. This experience gave me wonderful memories and countless anecdotes that I'll treasure forever.

My experience at the hostel was amazing! The opportunity to work in such a welcoming and family-like environment was one of a kind. The tasks, although challenging, were varied and allowed me to learn a lot about the daily routine of a hostel. ~ Also they're always around to help you. ~ The flexible schedule provided a good work-life balance. Mirela, Stephane, David and family members were exceptional hosts, always willing to help and make my stay more enjoyable. The city of Bruges is extremely charming. I thank everyone at the hostel for these unforgettable weeks xxx

I've loved my time with the hostel: the month has flown by, and I've had a great time here in Bruges. Duties range from reception/bartending to housekeeping to prepping/serving in the breakfast restaurant, but they really try to take your preferred shift type and hours into account. You can expect to work the full agreed-upon 25 hours each week. I'd recommend this experience to Worldpackers who are motivated self-starters, able to work independently, who want to experience a bit of life as a local in Flemish Belgium. I had a great time and will definitely be back :)

Absolutely loved my month at the hostel! All the volunteers/employees were awesome and I will miss the time we spent together. The jobs expected of volunteers can be challenging especially being unpaid. You are expected sometimes to have the work ethic of the employees without the pay. The staff rooms are also a bit cramped but that can help with bonding with each other! Very welcoming staff and very flexible with time off as needed if you want to travel around a bit and see the nearby cities or even Amsterdam! The free local beers were also a fantastic benefit! I will come back one day!

I had an incredible time! After volunteering for 4 weeks I felt like it was my home and I had a family here. I made many new friends among the workers and guests. We had 2 days off per week, free breakfast and free beers! I had time to explore the area and other cities in Belgium. I signed up to work on the website but because it was busy season I mainly helped with other tasks such as housekeeping, bar, and terrace. I learned a lot of new skills which I am grateful for. It was more work than I expected but it was a valuable and great experience! I would come back <3

The staff was very attentive from the start, they really put an effort into building a community amongst the volunteers and promoting a nice and fun work environment. I recommend this experience if you are interested in meeting people from all over the world and making lots of friends!
