My experience at Kandy the school was great! Before this, I had never taught English, but it has provided me with valuable skills that are extremely transferable. The food was amazing, and learning about the Sri Lankan culture was very interesting for me - thank you to Nissa and the rest of your family for making this a great experience!

This was such a wonderful experience! It was my first Worldpackers volunteer position and I felt welcomed immediately by the host family. This opportunity is hard work but so well worth it to contribute to the kids' learning journey. The food is amazing and so is the atmosphere, you can feel it! Thank you again Nisa for this opportunity!! :)

This volunteering experience was life changing. I will remain friends with the family for life. We enjoyed card games, cooking and day trips together each day. I will miss them very much. As for the school, the children are so sweet and determined to learn. The teachers have such passion and love for the children and their learning. It was very special to be a part of their journey. I love the routine of the day. We start at roughly 8am and finish around 12.30/1. The rest of the day we were free to explore Kandy/ other places :) I would really reccomend and hope to return myself :) thank you

Absolutely amazing! Felt so welcomed, so well taken care of! Nisa, Malik, Meli and grandma, an extraordinary family who made sure i have a great stay, gave me tons of advice and tips about sri lanka and what should i do, how to get to places and made me EAT EAT EAT a lot of delicious food! The kids were really cute, a but tiring sometimes but it was just a few hour a day so it was ok! I got to wear saris, learn traditional dances and experience the culture! 100% recommend!

This was my first Worldpackers experience, and I cannot recommend it enough! The food was amazing, and Nisa and her family are so helpful in traveling tips and telling you about Sri Lankan culture. They went above and beyond to make sure that we were safe and comfortable, and they were kind enough to be flexible and accommodating with their plans for everyone. They truly create a family environment for all the volunteers

Nisa, Malik, Melina, Grandma and their pets Mashi & Molly are absolute gems! You feel right at home with their warmth, the sri lankan food & cooking sessions, and ofcourse the kids at the school. The kids are between the age of 3 and 7, and will get friendly with you before yoy know it! Your day starts at 7:30 and ends by 13/13:30- you assist teachers in the classroom, and after to prepare for the next day. Then you also get to help out in the kitchen for dinner, which us super fun as you learn so much :)

Volunteering was super fun! The teachers are passionate. The kids are sweet, it can take energy sometimes but it's all worth it! The best thing was living together with the family. We had so many great conversations, a lot of laughter, cooked together, played card games. Even in my spare time, they were always there for me when I had some challenges. I am grateful for this experience 🥰 Warning!!! If you are from the Netherlands, you will probably have to bring lots of stroopwafels and speculoos. There is no wifi, but there is signal. Lots of love, Julia 🫶🏼

I applied one day before I got there and the communication with Nisa was so good. She helped me find the right bus from the south to Kandy. I felt so welcomed and love their family. The only thing I reacted to was how dirty the room was and especially the bathroom was. And also not getting so much information about how the school and classes worked. It wasn't very organized with witch teacher who had which class and we didn't get any information about how to handle the kids and that we had to feed some of them. But overall a good experience and learnd about the culture, but one week was enough

Before you come to school, we provide important guidelines for every volunteer through Worldpackers.

Please make sure to check these documents before giving advice to others. They include essential information about our school.

Also, remember that this is not a hotel—it is a school. You are responsible for cleaning your own bathroom. Other volunteers are already familiar with these rules. If you have any questions, feel free to ask them.

I had an absolutely fantastic first Worldpackers experience staying with Nisa, Malik, and Melina! From the moment I arrived, they made me feel incredibly welcome. Their warmth and hospitality truly made it feel like home. I had the opportunity to volunteer at their school, which was an enriching and rewarding experience. I assisted in various activities, such as supporting the children with workbooks and crafts. Nisa, Malik, and Melina were wonderful hosts, always supportive and attentive, and helped organise trips during free time. An experience I will treasure for a lifetime!

This was my first experience volunteering in a school and it was absolutely amazing! The work itself was fun and meaningful, the kids are adorable and energetic. We worked less than 5 hrs per day all week days so there was plenty to do when not working too! The best part of this experience was definitely the host family though!! Nisa, Malik and Melina were amazing!! They are definitely my Sri Lankan family now!! They give you travel tips and advice, help with any and all problems you might bump into, every night is a private cozy cooking class in their home. They are the best!!!!
