I was welcomed by Asih's family right away. They are really remarkable, living in a community that struggles with knowledge and attempting to help them grow with compassion. I learned so much about Indonesian culture but also social nuances. Asih's family cares about empowerment and inclusivity and I really believe in their mission. I also got to visit some beautiful destinations (waterfalls!) in my one month there and did some fun and unique activities. Advice: there are mosquitos. Best to bring repellent from outside of Indonesia (spray DEET is best) but can buy locally (Soffell > Autan).

One of the best decisions i made during my travels was volunteering at the organization. What an amazing family! They make you feel welcome and save. the organization has such a bright future ahead of them. Keep working hard and you'll reach your goals. Until next time!

Asih, Haidar, and the family are absolute angels and exceeded my expectations in every way. I felt right at home, got to be involved in the local community, and learn about a new culture. See you all again someday :)

I have mixed feelings. The moments I spent with the children and young people were truly wonderful their joy and sincerity touched my heart deeply. However, I felt there could be more organization and planning in the project. On a couple of occasions, I had to cover the cost of materials for activities myself, which made me wonder how the contributions from volunteers are allocated. I believe the project could benefit from having a clearer structure and purpose for volunteers, so that the time spent here is more directly connected to the proyecto instead of and income and tourist porpoise

I'm sorry to hear that the experience is not exactly what you hoped. We are always looking to improve, of course, so I can elaborate more on the situation. In reality, the meaningful experience you had with local children and youth wouldn't have possible without the existence of this organization and the voluntary work we've put in to make it happen. It's only fair that any appreciation for the experience also acknowledges the role of the organization behind it.

We need to consider each

I had a lovely time at Omasena Ogenang! The people are kind, the place is peaceful, and the food is amazing. The work is flexible, with no strict schedule, and there's time to explore Java around. Every day is different, and you really feel part of the family. Thank you so much for everything!

Volunteering at the organization was a one of a kind experience, the team is very warm, welcoming and kind. A heartfelt experience that will remain with me forever. I learned about Permaculture, taught English to kids, visited local schools and experienced local slow living in Lumajang, Indonesia. Special thanks to the founder Aishi who made me feel like a part of the family & who cooked delicious meals for me. Also thanks to Haider for taking me to Tumpak Semu Waterfall. Truly grateful for the experience. Eagerly looking forward to come back soon! Lots of love, Nishad

We had an incredible experience at Omah Sinau Gesang! If you want to immerse yourself in the local culture of East Java while contributing to a meaningful project, this is the perfect place. Asih and her family are incredibly kind-hearted making you feel like part of their family. Every day was unique, filled with joyful moments - from playing Gamelan and doing aerobics with the children, to teaching English and discovering the stunning Tumpak Sewu waterfalls and Mount Bromo. And we were treated to the best traditional Javanese food, thanks to the amazing cook : Asih. Merci beaucoup !

We had an amazing experience at Omah Sinau Gesang. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to experience the local culture in East-Java and that likes to help a community! Asih was the best host that we could wish. She made us feel so welcome and we immediately felt at home. We had a great time with her family and Asih spoiled us every day with her cooking skills. We learned so much from their local culture and Asih and her family showed us beautiful places in the area. We are so thankful for everything we have learned during our stay at the organization we hope that we contributed to the organization's goals🙏😀
