Program Details
Teacher volunteers will coordinate with Gaia Ashram staff and the local school to design and deliver English and environmental studies lesson plans for primary school-aged children. They'll spend most of their volunteering hours at the local school, but also a lot of time here at Gaia, where they'll live, sleep, eat, and participate in community life. We'd really love to work with people who are passionate about themes like education, working with kids, and nature.
Activities & Shift
Teacher volunteers will teach these hours:
Tuesday-Friday: English class from 10:30-11:30am
Monday-Friday: Environmental studies class (lots of outdoor and nature connection activities in addition to classroom learning) from 14:30-15:30
Environmental studies weekly schedule:
Mondays: Nature education and connection
Tuesdays: Ecology and sustainable living
Wednesdays: Self and community awareness
Thursdays: Local economy
Fridays: Climate change adaptation
Volunteers should be ready to design interactive, education, fun activities for children relating to the areas listed above. This curriculum is subject to change, but the model above is meant to give you an idea of what we're doing for now.
Every Monday morning, volunteers will stay at Gaia and participate in our weekly Monday morning community cleaning activities together with the other volunteers.
Rules
Please don't use drugs or alcohol at Gaia Ashram. When visiting temples, please cover your knees, shoulders, and belly. At Gaia, please don't walk around in a bikini or sports bra; this is disrespectful in Thailand, and our community is made up of mixed Thais and foreigners + many Thai workers on the land. Thank you for understanding :)
