My experience at the hostel was great! Surrounded by nature and greenery, the structure itself is beautiful and provides a peaceful environment. Ernesto, the host, is a truly caring and attentive person. During my stay, we even experienced a hurricane, but the place proved to be safe and well-prepared. I would recommend volunteering at the hostel to anyone looking with a meaning connection with nature and locals.

The hostel is beautiful and a lovely bit of respite. Little Pepote (hostel dog) made the experience even better! Caro was so kind and invited us for breakfast, which was really appreciated and absolutely delicious. Ernesto seemed less present than I expected from past reviews, and when I messaged goodbye after not being able to find him, I didn't get a reply which I was slightly disappointed with after two weeks at the hostel. A few guests also pushed the rules a bit and not much was said. Still, the tasks were very fair, the atmosphere was relaxed, and I'm grateful for the time of self reflection.

Well, this was unexpected.

-I gave you less hours of work on your first day
-I gave you a private room instead of a bed in the shared dorm
-I offered you food on your first morning
-I cooked breakfast for you on your first weekend
-I invited you to participate for free in workshops (you chose not to)
-You spent most of the time you were in the hostel inside of the room, and didn't socialize with the rest of the community.

And you give me a low rating and complain that I was distant?

The hostel is stunning, the pool is great. You'll see a lot of local wildlife and cuddle a very cute hostel dog. Caro was lovely and cooked us breakfast a few times too. I found Ernesto to be quite distant. I didn't feel much of an exchange past the work for board. Jobs were simple although did verge into the range of dogsbody rather than respected staff member. Overall a good stay but found the lack personability a little disappointing. Definitely worth spending your time here but do be prepared for a degree of isolation.

Ernesto was the most accommodating, present & compassionate host. He always made sure we had what we needed and generously offered his time, recommendations and conversation when he could, even though he was very busy. Grateful for the time getting to know him and the others I met there as well.

Ernesto is a very great host. It was a wonderful and respectful experience! The people are nice and representative of the respectful environment you should have in communities like those. It is a safe place and also fun. The facilities are amazing (sauna, pool etc). The host did he best to accommodate and to offer private room. Everything was open to be talked about and for compromises. The host is truly a great person of values and experiences. I recommend going😊

Place was really amazing. All open minded people and freedom. Helping cleaning wasn't hard. Temperature made it a little bit harder but Ernesto gives a flexibility in working hours and remind sto drink more water 😅 the only bad thing about the hostel? Leaving. I extended my stay a bit haha.

The hostel is a great place, I loved staying there. Ernesto is a great person who showed me around the place, explain how it works and I would love to come back. Zipolite itself is a very cute, little, hippie town with everything you need in a compact size. It's full of international travelers, but you can always meet the locals easily. Everyone is super friendly and it feels very safe to be there at any time. the hostel itself has a great space to dance, do yoga, as well as to relax. The tasks were easy and super clear. Helping with maintenance for few hours felt very chill.
