Equestrian Farm in Northern Portugal

Although I only spent one week on the farm, I had a very nice time. I really enjoyed spending time with the lovely animals and the other girls who were also working there as volunteers. Together with Violette and Carmo we went on trail rides with amazing views. The work wasn't too difficult, but the organisation could have been better, so sometimes there was a lot of work to do throughout the day. Nevertheless, it's inspiring to see how Violette and Carmo rescue and care for the animals, and I'm glad I was able to be part of this project. I'm very grateful for this experience<3

I had a great time with Violette and Carmo. They are great hosts and we had lots of good talks and fun. They were always there if you needed them and were supportive. The farm is beautiful and the tasks were not too hard. It was fun being around the animals and out in nature. Thank you so much for this experience! :)

I went for a whole month to the ranch. Carmo and Viollette were amazing, they even made a cake for my birthday which i spent in there. The project they have is beautiful. The way they put their hearts and effort on teaching, taking care and giving love to rescued horses is very touching. Both taught me a lot about horses and they explained to me everything no matter how many times I asked about it. Their dogs are very friendly and lovely. The horses are such a beautiful creatures. If you come here you have to understand the effort they make everyday for this project. One of the best.

I had such a great time that i decided to extend my stay. Violette and Carmo are extremely friendly, welcoming and respectful. I had heaps of fun and learnt a lot. It was great to enjoy the nature while working amongst the horses. The horses and dogs are all wonderful. Feeding the horses and cleaning the stables takes about half of your time, besides that there's all kinds of tasks to keep you busy. The house and the volunteer room is nice, the shower is strong and hot, violette is very helpful whenever you need to go into town to do shopping or laundry.

Violette & Carmo are excellent hosts and made me feel so welcomed in their home. They took me on trips around the town to try local foods as well as visiting their friends. Most importantly they do important work on the farm and look after previously neglected animals. They have friendly dogs and the horses are very well trained. You volunteer with breaks in between so the work is doable. As to the most recent previous review, they could not be more wrong! The hosts really look after their animals and are very friendly and helpful. :) thank you for everything!

I spent a month here with mixed feelings. The project is inspiring, and Carmo and Violette are very passionate but also overworked, relying heavily on volunteers. Hours were only respected when 2-3 volunteers were present. I enjoyed the events and learned a lot about their horse work. The house can get dirty from everyone working outdoors. If you're okay with simple living and hands-on work, this is a rewarding project with great potential—just come with clear expectations. Thank you V&C for letting me stay longer! 🙏🏼 This review is too short for a full picture, for questions, write me :)

I had high hopes for my Worldpackers experience, It was my first experience and I really wanted to connect with nature and ride horses . but unfortunately, it didn't meet my expectations. From the start, there was very little interaction beyond work-related tasks. While I understand that volunteering involves responsibilities, the workload kept increasing daily, making it not feel so good .Additionally, there was no real effort to build connections or create a welcoming atmosphere. After four days, I decided to leave as the experience wasn't what I had hoped for.

I almost spent 2 week there and I have to say that it didnt feel that long at all. The time run because your days were always full of unexpected experiences, work and fun times. Hard work and ambition is demanded what teached me to show more discipline and motivation in life. I learned to ignore my fears and that it really made me grow as a person. The minimalistic lifestyle is teaching you to appreciate much more in life. A point that could get improved is a better communication and a bit more speaking of English. Sending love and a big Thank you to Carmo, Violette, Rafa and George!

I had a good time volunteering with Violette and Carmo. There was a good mix of working with them and doing work on my own. Work consisted mostly of painting their new tack room and reception and giving the horses food and hay in the morning and evening. Hardly felt like work :) I'll definitely miss this experience I had 🫶🏻
