The experience

Katitawa is an independent primary school founded in 1977 and located in the indigenous Andean village of Salasaka, Ecuador. The school is designed to create a place where the children and adults can learn, while also creating an educational model that promotes the cultural identity of students. Katitawa is located in Salasaka a safe indigenous village with a lot of tradition.


What you offer

28 hours of help per week

Teaching Languages: Teaching a language to the host, guests, or local communities.

Additional fee required

Amount: US$ 30 Per week

Description: Volunteers pay 30$ a week, from which food is bought on the market to cook for the whole week; the rest of the money is used for maintenance such as gas, electricity, wifi.


What you get

3 days off per week

Private Room: You will have a bed in a private room. In other words, a room just for you.

Shared Dorm: You will have a bed in a shared room, which means you will share the same room with other travelers.

Breakfast: You are entitled to a free breakfast, every day of your stay.

Lunch: You are entitled to a free lunch, every day of your stay.

Dinner: You are entitled to a free dinner, every day of your stay.

Basic Internet Access: Basic speed internet for you to work remotely


Requirements

Fluent English and Beginner Spanish

Between 18 and 80 years old

Welcomes solo volunteers, couples, and partners of volunteers

Flights, Travel Insurance, Internal Transportation and Visa


Program Details

Volunteers help teach English in the local school in the morning and then give private lessons in the afternoon. As a volunteer, you will live in a HosterĂ­a Pachamama (a volunteer house) where you can prepare the lessons, cook, and spend time with other volunteers or work online.


Activities & Shift

You can have a unique experience of living in an indigenous village in Salasaka and travel around Ecuador on the weekends (Friday is free). The village of Salasaka is a community still keeping its traditions; there are many cultural events you can see and experience.
