I had an AMAZING experience at the reserve!! The place is very nice, in the middle of an island, you can see many animals and biodiversity. We are working with the association LAST, building and caring the hatchery and doing night patrols (10km per patrol). You can definitely learn a lot about turtles and see a turtle laying the eggs is just an incredible feeling, such a beautiful moment to live ! The team is also very nice :) During the rest of the time, we stayed with Hernan, the loveliest person on earth! He is very passionate and you can do canoe tour, fishing, hiking, and cooking :)

The time in the reserve was incredible! At first you definitely have to get used to the surrounding and environment, but it's so worth it. If you are open to new ways of living and different mentalities, this place is perfect for you! Everyone is so kind and I learned a lot about nature and local life.

This was my first Worldpackers experience/solo trip, & it was everything I was looking for. The natural beauty of the rainforest is unmatched. Hernan was a wonderful guide to the wildlife- I saw & learned about so many new animals because of him. The work is easy & fun- it involved collecting litter, clearing palm branches, or gathering/cleaning coconuts. That said, the language barrier was very difficult for me as Patri & everyone there speaks primarily Spanish. Hernan speaks some English, which made it easier, but I wouldn't suggest this one for someone who doesn't speak the language at all!

I strongly advise against this project. I came from France for a meaningful monkey conservation program, but it hasn't really started, it's just distant observation with binoculars, no interaction, no structure, no goals, no supervision. You'd see more in Cahuita National Park for less. I was the only volunteer, which felt uncomfortable. The host's brother was kind, but the room, the kitchen, the toilets were filthy, full of insects and dust, and I got food poisoning after leaving. No refund was offered only 70$. Beware: good reviews are mostly for the turtle project, not this one.

It is a very beautiful place! We spent most time on the beach or walking around the rainforest, we left feeling very connected to nature. The living space was basic and humid which made it sometimes uncomfortable. We enjoyed the turtle volunteering although there was a small lack of communication between the turtle center and our lodge. we often had to walk over to see our schedule for the day. The food was good, portions are on the smaller side. We definitely enjoyed our time at this beautiful place, but be prepared to be outdoors all day and have basic amenities in a rainforest climate!

Amazing experience in the reserve, especially because of Hernan who truely loves sharing and socialize with volunteers !! Thanks to him, I've learnt so many things about nature, animals, local foods, fishing and local culture. I deeply thank him for my stay there ! Do not hesitate to go there 😉 (Just be careful there's tones of mosquitoes)

Exactly as described amidst the river, the sea and the jungle. It's what it takes to get deep in the nature, be content with simplicity and be absolutely accepting towards local way of life. Pura vida makes true sense. Tasks are as per the season, they involve clearing up the farm, cleaning spaces, picking up waste from the beach. The best part is Hernan, who patiently and in the very tico way keeps chill and leads by minimum but effective words. There is always time for a coconut and you never go thirsty. Sea and the river and the jungle are all for you to explore. Pura vida amigos!

My week here was wonderful thanks to Hernán who was truly passionate by his life here. He was always present with us to exchange about wildlife and show his way of living. The place is truly beautiful and the bed cosy but you shouldn't be afraid of wildlife and a bit of discomfort (it is in nature, you always get dirty and the houses are made by their own hands, it is precious but not with much confort). I didn't mind because the surrundings and the outside were just very beautiful. The food was amazing too ! Thank you to Patricia for hosting me and sharing a part of her life.

The reserve is an absolute amazing place to be. It's the perfect spot for experiencing the authentic Carribbean Life with food and everything. The accommodation is very basic but after some days you'll get used to that. Patricia and Hernan are so heartwarming nice people and you can always communicate and talk with them about everything. The work is not really much and more fun and interesting then real work. Also, if you go in turtle season you have good chances to see some or even babies at the nearby Hatchery. I can recommend this to everyone who wants to experience the Caribbean Life.
