I was in the the shelter for 5 weeks and had a good time there. I was able to learn a lot about Thai culture, the food was good and all the dogs are very sweet. The work wasn't too strenuous and you had a lot of free time, which I don't think you could use very well because there isn't much going on around the the shelter as described in the host. I also only met good people:)

I had an amazing time volunteering at the the shelter, where I was in charge of caring for the cats, also the dogs are really friendly. The experience was incredibly rewarding, and the warm atmosphere made it even better. Malee, the kind-hearted owner, and Thomas, a fellow traveler who cooked delicious meals, made me feel right at home. On free days, I had a great time at the beach with other volunteers—Diem, Anna, Rosa, and Elina. And attending a local festival in traditional attire was a unique cultural experience It was an unforgettable experience.

The accommodation and food were excellent. I lived in a separate small house with an outside bathroom. I was able to try different Thai dishes, thanks to Malee. The dogs are gorgeous, most of them are very friendly. But I couldn't explore Chantaburi and the nature around because I could only stay outside the the shelter until 5 p.m.

After 3 weeks, I can say in general it was quite good experience. You can taste Thai food and snacks cooked by Malee and live in a Thai house that can give you some overview about the culture. At the beginning the dogs might be overwhelming but once they'll get to know you they are lovely and willing to cuddle. Some of them are in a bad health condition which is hard to look at. They also have a lot of ticks. Living conditions are not the best but there's everything you need. On your day off you'll be requested to come back at 6 pm the latest. The place is more for the girls.

Thanks for your review. Just for clarification, ticks are a general problem in Thailand and any kind of medication or vet visits cost a lot of money. This is why we had to implement a fee for volunteers to buy food for the volunteers and maybe cover a bit of medical costs or by dog food. If people are really interested in the work we do they will see that running a dog shelter in Thailand is a 24/7 job which is has no government support at all and involves much more than cuddling and feeding the dogs.

I spent two weeks at the the shelter, the tasks are simple, and you have time to rest. Malee is super nice, always worrying that you are okay or if you need anything. The dogs are not dangerous, some are just scared but over time they end up loving you.

The the shelter is outside town, so you really have the feeling of being in nature. Malee is very sweet and makes sure the volunteers are ok and have everything they need. The dogs are lovely and you can bond with them. Tasks are easy, but with 300 dogs it is a lot of work. A bit more than the daily hours agreed on, but that was ok. Therefore I have the feeling that 300 dogs are too many for the care they deserve.

Thank you for your feedback! We will adjust the daily working hours. We are aware that 300 dogs are a lot, unfortunately this is something we can't change, without people who would adopt them. We know that they deserve everything and Malee has dedicated her life to keep those animals safe. Food, Medication, vet bills, vaccinations, surgeries etc. are things were we don't get any support and sometimes we have to calculate where the money is needed the most. And the volunteer work from you and the other volunteers is for us/ the dogs necessary to keep going and we are just thankful for that!

Malee made me feel very welcomed at her the shelter. The house I stayed in had everything you need, don't expect luxury, the geckos poop everywhere and we cleaned the floors etc.every few days.Washing machines and detergent are free to use.The tasks contained of poop scooping in the morning time(10am-11.30am)and feeding the dogs in the afternoon(1pm-3.3pm).Just ask for your day of,Malee might forget but she loved to show the area and beaches. The dogs are mostly healthy except for ticks/fleas,most dogs are very friendly and love to get pets!Far away from town, Malee has to drive you anywhere by car.

I enjoyed my stay at the the shelter. Malee is so friendly and welcoming. Most of the dogs are friendly. Some of them can get scared though. the the shelter is a bit farther away from the city, so to do anything you need to take time to travel around. But together with the other volunteers it's much fun and easy to go around.
