The experience

You will be volunteering in our preschool/kindergarten working with your choice of 3, 4 or 5 year olds. You will assist the teacher in supervising the students, helping in the classroom with art, games and music. Help children complete worksheets and assist with setting up activities, prepping supplies and checking their work.

You will also help organize recreational activities that encourage children's social and emotional development.

What you offer

28 hours of help per week

Child Care: Caring for, playing with, and spending time with children.

Arts: Help with painting, graffiti, sculpting or drawing.

Social Work: Help with volunteer work in local projects and communities.

Additional fee required

Amount: US$ 160 Per week

Fee pays for: Donation to project

Description: All accommodation fees are a direct, 100% donation to Centro Infantil de los Ángeles (CILA). Each donation will be used for the benefit of our children at the center: for food, teacher salaries, classroom supplies, maintenance, etc. We make every donation count and really appreciate the volunteers’ support in these efforts. Your contribution helps pay for 2 meals a day, hot showers, fast internet, and housekeeping.

Shared Dorm: You will have a bed in a shared room, which means you will share the same room with other travelers.

Breakfast: You are entitled to a free breakfast, every day of your stay.

Free Laundry: You can use our laundry room freely.

Use our equipped kitchen: Feel free to use our kitchen and make your own delicious food.

Certificate: Get a certificate of completion after you finish your experience.

Program Details

Centro Infantil de los Ángeles (CILA) is a nonprofit organization that provides high quality daycare and preschool education to children with the greatest need in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Our center affords low-income working parents the confidence and security of knowing their children are fed, cared for, and supported on their path to a brighter future.

Activities & Shift

During your volunteering, you will be assigned a classroom of 3, 4 or 5 year olds. You will assist the teacher, helping with a variety of activities including: playing with the children, art, music, dance, coordination, help with completing worksheets, etc. You will find the children quite friendly and interested in finding out more about you.

Volunteers are expected to help out at the preschool Monday-Friday from 9:00 a.m.- 12:30 pm and 2:00 pm to 4:00 p.m. You take your lunch break between the morning and afternoon sessions. You are free to stay until 5:30 pm if you would like.

Volunteers are free on weekday late afternoons, weekends, and Mexican holidays.

Rules

It is very important for volunteers who are considering this experience to have the love, creativity, energy, and willingness to help preschoolers (3 to 6 years old). We also strongly recommend that volunteers have studied or demonstrate an interest in studying Spanish prior to and during their time with us. That way, volunteers can be the most useful in the classroom and have the most rewarding experience possible.
