Volunteer Teaching English at Our Pre-School In Bogota!

I liked the work & the school is great. Sadly is that I didn't feel respected neither that me & my feelings were taken seriously. The basic communication felt really hard. I was really understanding all the time (no heating, only cold water, slow WiFi, no water at all). We had to move the apartment and it was still under construction and the air was toxic. I texted the person who is responsible and she answered that I may leave if I don't like it and that I'm always complaining. I asked/complained about the basics and felt disrespected by such an attitude of the host.

Bogotá homes don’t have heating as it’s not needed for the climate. A citywide water cut affected our area, so we moved accommodations to improve your stay. The new place was not under construction—just a new door being installed—and the air was not toxic. Our Wi-Fi is high-speed, the top plan from ETB. You raised new complaints daily, and we did our best to assist you each time. We’re sorry you were still unhappy. We wish you the best and thank you for joining us.

Overall the experience was great! Interacting with the teachers and especially the kids was the best part about the voluntering. All of them are super cute. It would be useful to already know some spanish bc the communication was kind of difficult sometimes. I also think some instructions beforehand about the whole teaching, like different topics etc., would be helpful. Besides that I really enjoyed my time there and I am very thankful for the other volunteer girls!

The experience with the kids and the teachers is truly amazing, they are really sweet and I enjoyed teaching them, but the overall logistic of the volunteering is missing a few important things: the communication is not good, we were never told the topics or explained anything before the classes, so most of the times we had to improvise, a lot of days we were never assigned a classroom and we were never told about the weekly water rationing in the apt. None of the teachers speak English so communicating is difficult. The overall experience could significantly improve with more organization.

Hi Valentina,

• At CMPS, we regularly adjust activities and routines, making it difficult to assign volunteers to a single classroom, especially in Montessori, a non-traditional learning method.
• Water rationing occurs twice a month across Bogotá. Unlike American or European cities, even hotels and businesses must comply.
• Our teachers primarily speak Spanish, as English proficiency in Colombia is low (about 4%).

We’re delighted you enjoyed teaching the children—thank you for your feedback!

Working at the school was great overall! The school is well-run, the meals are delicious, and the apartment is in a super safe neighborhood close to the school. There are five different classes of kids ages 2-6 years old, and I loved interacting with them. The only thing that could have made the experience better is a little more communication & orientation before the first day about class & activity expectations with the kids. I would be prepared beforehand with activities for day 1! It's also super helpful to know a little Spanish :)

It was a great experience being a volunteer at CPMS, and I will not forget my time there! Most importantly, the kids & teachers are lovely and it is so great to contribute to their development. Food & accommocation provided are also very good, and I was happy about being together with 2 other volunteers. The one thing that could be improved is the initial instruction and explanation about the typical structure of a lesson and recommended activities, I was thrown in at the deep end on my first day and felt a bit desoriented at first.

My experience at the school was absolutely incredible! Working with the kids and teaching them ended up teaching me so much more. We really got included into the work-days but were never forced to do something we didn't feel comfortable with. Everyday we could choose the group we would work with and after 4 hours we'd return to our super close flat. The deal is truly amazing, me and my other roommates simply had to make a grocery list every week and would get food for free as well as the flat of course. Sofia is also always available, helping out with any inconvenience. Will be back!❤️

My experience was amazing. Sofia and Ximena are constantly in contact and available to help us. The school is fantastic, the teachers are so kind and helpful (most don't speak much English, so the challenge is interesting!), the kids are ADORABLE. This experience has definitely contributed to my professional and personal growth. I appreciate all the support and love I received, and a special thank you to Nubia (our lovely housekeeper) and Misses Geraldine and Natalia, who are wonderful teachers.

I am writing this on my last day of work at the school, thinking of all the wonderful moments I had this past month. The children are absolutely wonderful, each and every one of them. The teachers are trained and professional, they always try to give their best! A wonderful family business, where you can clearly see the dedication for offering a very good education for the children (and I am a fan of the Montessori method). Special thanks to Nubia for helping us with our groceries and keeping the flat tidy. Big thank you to Sofia and Ximena for making this experience possible!

I only planned on staying at the school for a month, but after 4 days, I knew that was not enough time. I cannot express enough gratitude to Sofia, Ximena, and Nubia for the past 2 months and everything they do to run the school and this volunteer experience. The teachers are knowledgeable, the kids are the absolute sweetest, and the hours and school breaks are very nice. So you can live in Bogotá and take weekend trips to other cities. The neighborhood is very safe, and you will have a more authentic experience living in Modelia instead of Candelaria or Chapi. I would 100% recommend!

I had a wonderful time in Bogotá Colombia volunteering at the school. The apartment, hours and meals were great and accurately described on their profile. The kids and teachers are wonderful as well (special shoutout to the seals🦭 ). The only thing to note is that there was a lack of communication at times about the expectations, workers at the house and knowledge about the city, like the water supply getting cut off. Other than that, it was an exceptional experience!
