The experience

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you'll join me on my journey for a month or two or long-term.

I have a pair of picturesque, riverfront hobby farms, each with a large 4-bedroom house. I have a small field of wild blueberries, a dozen alpacas, and a small flock of free-range chickens. I'd love some help with the animals and projects around the farm.

It's a very culturally conservative area. Not the best place if you're woke or list your pronouns.

Program Details

25 hours a week of volunteering (roughly 5 hours/day for 5 days/week), in return for a room and 3 basic meals. :-)
My diet is high carbs with mostly plant-based protein (occasional meat or fish, though), but I will buy some bananas while you are here. :-) If you need a salad every day or you're a big snacker, you'd best stop in at the grocery store. I'm mostly vegetarian-ish; so, probably not a great fit for obligate carnivores.

Activities & Shift

Daily feeding of the alpacas and chickens. Maintaining the animal housing.
Working on the alpaca fibre.
Gardening (depending on the time of year).
Cleaning and organizing, as needed.
Painting, mostly exterior.
Clearing brush and building fences.

Rules

Absolutely no smoking in or near the houses or any of the buildings.
On your days off, do a very small amount of housework, the way you would in your own home.
If you want to drink alcohol here, please bring your own.
If you have a frequent appetite outside of mealtimes, you should probably bring some snacks to keep in your room.
If you will be here between May 1 and October 31, please bring your own supply of bug repellent. There are a lot of blackflies and mosquitoes during that time.
I have a long list of smaller (but still important) rules. Feel free to request it before arriving.
