Housekeeping in a family-run hostel in beautiful Cassis!

I was very well received by Valerie and her family. Valerie is very kind and polite. She was one of the nicest hosts I have ever met. My time in the hostel was very good, but as I went in winter it ended up being a little lonely, as I was the only volunteer there. But with the time off I managed to visit Marseille, which is a beautiful neighboring city. Working hours were respected and time off was also respected and the work was not heavy. The tasks are basically to maintain the cleanliness of the apartments upstairs and the hostel in general.

Let's get straight to the point. The work load is light, which gives you lots of free time to enjoy the surroundings. The city, the hikes and the beaches are stunning. Valérie is sweet and fun to work with. However, she was rarely there. I've only seen her 5 days out of the month I spent there. She would also take forever to answer messages, which was inconvenient during emergencies. Also, it can get boring at time when you are alone. If you want an immersive experience, I recommend looking elsewhere. Yet, if you wish for some time off to enjoy the city, this might be the job for you.

My stay in the hostel was positive. The city is small and peaceful. The offered room was good, the work was simple, and the hours were well respected. The work and meal system worked very well. However, throughout my stay, there was no internet, which may be an important consideration for some. Sharing the experience with another volunteer was crucial; I imagine being alone could become lonely and monotonous.

I had a great time volunteering at the hostel, location is great, you will stay in a 6 BR dorms by the pool. Super clean, great atmosphere, easy tasks related to housekeeper, cleaning, check-in as well. Be responsible, learn what needs to be done and everything will be great, after that you will have plenty of free time. VALÉRIE is super friendly, fair, and responsible, for instance if u need a particular day off she can manage that. You will practice English and of course French too. Fully recommended by me, Thanks Valérie for making my 7 weeks here just unforgettable !!! Merci. LOL

This experience was really fun and so helpful for improving my French. Valerie was really lovely and accommodating, it really helps if you make an effort to speak/learn some French. The work only took the mornings, it was very important to get everything done before you can leave but it was nice to have the whole afternoons and evenings to go to the beach or explore the area. Met some really lovely people and spent lots of time in the pool :)

Hello, this was my first experience, and it couldn't have been better. From the reception by hostess Valerie and her family, everyone was so kind. Tasks are as per the description. Valerie is flawless! Concerned about our well-being, she encourages conversation in French and makes delicious crepes. I felt very welcome and would highly recommend the hostel experience. I practiced French, English, met special people, like Aldana and Anouk. I was very happy here, and I would like to say see you soon. I wish you and your family all the best Valerie, thank you so much for everything. Juliane

This was my first world packers experience. I enjoyed staying at Valerie's hostel. In front of the shared bed room there's a fantastic view and a very nice pool to spend some good time at. Also the tasks (housekeeping, cleaning) were well communicated and easy to understand. It's necessary that everything will be done till new guests arrived. But after work you have enough time to explore the hostel, the surroundings and of course Marseille (I recommend a lot!!!). I met great people there and really hope to come back one day … A big thanks to Valerie and her husband. :)

The hostel is a beautiful place. The nature and the beaches are beautiful. It's also super close to a lot of surrounding cities you should check out. The hostel is located well and not far away from the beach or centre ville at all. I enjoyed my stay and would love to come back to the hostel one day. I definitely had days where I felt a bit overwhelmed or exhausted from the work. I'd say as long as you have one other person working with you it should be fine. It's just the times where you're working alone that it gets difficult. I'd say communication could be improved on, there's a high standard.

I had a fun and relaxing month in the hostel! It's such a beautiful town and close to the Calanques. The work is pretty manageable, only a couple hours a day of cleaning, however the owner sometimes isn't very clear with instructions. I was lucky enough to be there with another world packer which made it a lot more fun. I imagine it would be pretty isolating and lonely if you were by yourself. You're very much left to do your own thing and the owner isn't around a lot, which can be good or bad depending what you want from it. Overall I had a positive experience but these are good things to know

My experience at the hostel was very nice. It's a beautiful place and I was lucky enough to have another volunteer with me who I became close friends with. As the other reviews say, if I was alone I think it would have been much more difficult since the hostel is so small. Valerie is nice, but she expects a very high standard of cleanliness, does not always give clear instructions and can be strict with you. I think if you speak French/have professional housekeeping experience you will have a much easier time. Not enough room to give my full review but pls message if you want any more information!
