This experience was really fun and so helpful for improving my French. Valerie was really lovely and accommodating, it really helps if you make an effort to speak/learn some French. The work only took the mornings, it was very important to get everything done before you can leave but it was nice to have the whole afternoons and evenings to go to the beach or explore the area. Met some really lovely people and spent lots of time in the pool :)

Hello, this was my first experience, and it couldn't have been better. From the reception by hostess Valerie and her family, everyone was so kind. Tasks are as per the description. Valerie is flawless! Concerned about our well-being, she encourages conversation in French and makes delicious crepes. I felt very welcome and would highly recommend the hostel experience. I practiced French, English, met special people, like Aldana and Anouk. I was very happy here, and I would like to say see you soon. I wish you and your family all the best Valerie, thank you so much for everything. Juliane

This was my first world packers experience. I enjoyed staying at Valerie's hostel. In front of the shared bed room there's a fantastic view and a very nice pool to spend some good time at. Also the tasks (housekeeping, cleaning) were well communicated and easy to understand. It's necessary that everything will be done till new guests arrived. But after work you have enough time to explore the hostel, the surroundings and of course Marseille (I recommend a lot!!!). I met great people there and really hope to come back one day … A big thanks to Valerie and her husband. :)

The hostel is a beautiful place. The nature and the beaches are beautiful. It's also super close to a lot of surrounding cities you should check out. The hostel is located well and not far away from the beach or centre ville at all. I enjoyed my stay and would love to come back to the hostel one day. I definitely had days where I felt a bit overwhelmed or exhausted from the work. I'd say as long as you have one other person working with you it should be fine. It's just the times where you're working alone that it gets difficult. I'd say communication could be improved on, there's a high standard.

I had a fun and relaxing month in the hostel! It's such a beautiful town and close to the Calanques. The work is pretty manageable, only a couple hours a day of cleaning, however the owner sometimes isn't very clear with instructions. I was lucky enough to be there with another world packer which made it a lot more fun. I imagine it would be pretty isolating and lonely if you were by yourself. You're very much left to do your own thing and the owner isn't around a lot, which can be good or bad depending what you want from it. Overall I had a positive experience but these are good things to know

My experience at the hostel was very nice. It's a beautiful place and I was lucky enough to have another volunteer with me who I became close friends with. As the other reviews say, if I was alone I think it would have been much more difficult since the hostel is so small. Valerie is nice, but she expects a very high standard of cleanliness, does not always give clear instructions and can be strict with you. I think if you speak French/have professional housekeeping experience you will have a much easier time. Not enough room to give my full review but pls message if you want any more information!

The work is very doable (if there are more volunteers); you start at 10 a.m. and you usually have to clean the rooms, sweep the outside stairs and/or water the plants. You don't see the host much; Valerie sends messages in the morning with the tasks you need to do. This means you usually don't know when your day off will be, which makes it difficult to plan. Another inconvenience is that the room where you sleep is also the room where you cook, eat and chill. Overall, the hostel is a gorgeous city with beautiful nature and I loved my stay here. It's also really easy to get to other cities!

Valérie is a kind host and the job was manageable! Some days the working hours were longer than expected, depending on specific tasks given that day. The schedule is given each morning, so I didn't know which days I would be working or be off in advance. It was inconsistent. I would expect some time during your stay that you're the only volunteer working there as I was for some time. I was supposed to stay two months, but changed it to one month as it became too isolating for me and other personal reasons. If you're a fan of nature, hiking, a quiet/peaceful environment, this place is for you!

Incredibly pretty place in France! Valerie is very kind, but don't expect to get included into the family as much; independancy is required. The work is not much. You sleep in the same room as the people that come as hostel residents. The hostel room is very small. Tipp: There is another hostel from worldpackers in the hostel and we became really good friends with the volunteers there, feel encouraged to reach out to them. Feel free to ask me questions! the hostel definetly got a place in my heart. Thanks to Valerie for hosting me, I will come for visits!! Bisous😘
