Program Details
Ciao! We are Annemarie (38), Tom (40), Sam (4) and Timo (2) — a Dutch family who, five years ago, left our home country to build a sustainable rural life in the Italian countryside.
We care for 4 hectares of land, producing organic olive oil, honey, and growing fruit in our orchard, alongside a vegetable and flower garden. We sell our farm products and run a small sustainable B&B with four rooms.
We farm fully organic, following regenerative and permaculture principles, and aim to live sustainably in every aspect of daily life — from solar panels and a heat pump to a very hands-on lifestyle. As a young family building an agriculture and tourism business, there’s always something to do, and extra hands are truly welcome.
If you enjoy working hard, care about green living, are respectful, and want to experience authentic rural Italy, we’d love to have you join us. You can also find us online as Agriturismo Scala.
Activities & Shift
Our place is ideal for solo travellers, couples, or two travelling friends.
You’ll help for 5 hours per day, 5 days per week, usually from 8:00 to 13:30, with a coffee/tea break.
The work is hands-on and mostly outdoors, including tasks on the land (wood chipping, composting, weeding, mowing), helping build or paint simple structures, and general cleaning and maintenance. Experience with power tools or farm work (e.g. drills, assembling furniture, painting) is a plus — please mention this in your application.
We value motivation, flexibility, and a positive attitude, and you should be comfortable working outdoors in different conditions. We also ask that you are quiet, respectful, and comfortable with our young family life.
You’ll have a private attic room with a queen-size bed, ensuite bathroom, desk, fast Wi-Fi and 4G, offering full privacy. In your free time, you can relax around the agriturismo, walk or e-bike to the village, or take the bus (or bike) to the sea and nearby towns.
This experience is not a good fit if you’re looking for parties, nightlife, or very light tasks only. It’s best suited for 25+ slow travellers or digital nomads who enjoy a calm rural setting, want to contribute in a practical way, and are curious to learn more about sustainable living and production, and rural life in Italy.
Rules
We’re looking for honest, independent volunteers who respect our home, land, belongings, and the rhythm of our young family (so no late-night parties 🙂). You should be able to communicate comfortably in English, as we enjoy conversations and cultural exchange.
We like sharing meals and getting to know each other, but we won’t be with you all the time — you should feel comfortable working independently for several hours (alone or with your partner/friend) and exploring the region by bus or our e-bike. We'll be there for explanations of course :)
You’ll need to have your own health or travel insurance. We can pick you up from the nearest train station, and you’ll have access to free laundry, Wi-Fi and 5G during your stay.
