Restore a 600 yrs old farm in the Basque country

The home was a great host, she not only took time to offer suggestions of where to go in many neighbouring towns in the Basque region but she took the time to help plan out days, so I could make the most of my time in France. She also takes time to make delicious meals preparing not only the main course but also desserts and salads so you are always well fed, even offering to show me how to make the local Basque Flan. She is very welcoming and easy to get along with. The work was mostly scraping glue off wood, and the house while older was cosy and clean, and I throughly enjoyed my stay.

We had fun exploring Basque France while staying and working with the home. She gave us a lot of great cultural insight and we had a lot of interesting conversations over delicious lunches. The work was cleaning and sanding tiles, which wasn't difficult but at times felt repetitive. The house is a work in progress as described in the listing, but the home has always been up front about this and we can't wait to see how the project goes.

The home was amazing! such a lovely and welcoming woman. Her stories kept me intrigued and just when i thought i knew all there was to know she would enlighten me with something else. The work was enjoyable and she accommodates a tea break in the middle of the work day. The house is very old, yet this was no surprise as she emphasised this on our call prior to our stay, but still a joy to live in. I didn't take as much advantage as i could have of the local activities! yet we went to the local restaurant and had some great food, went on walks, and ventured to the beach. Couldn't rec enough!

This was our first worldpackers experience, and it was perfect. the home is such a lovely, funny and interesting person. She is incredibly welcoming and wants you to feel at home in her house. She's very passionate about her project and makes you feel dedicated to the work too. The house is old but you get used to it quickly & isn't an issue. She is a great cook and has some brilliant stories to share. The surrounding area/ town is beautiful with great walks, roads to cycle, a restaurant to visit and more. We highly recommend this experience and we hope to come back and do it all again soon.

The home is a great host with a property located in a lovely part of the country. Within biking distance of some lovely beaches aswell. The work itself is very interesting and fulfilling to work on such an old building. Thanks the home.

Gilbert is a great volunteer to have around: hard worker, willing to help, social and respectfull.
He made the most of his stay by joining friends to the beach or rinding around with the bike.
Thank you for your help Gilbert!

I decided to accept the home's offer of a week at her Farm house in the Basque region. She explained to me that the work would be hard but satisfying. On arriving there, the first thing I noticed was how beautiful and green the countryside was ,with an undulating terrain, not dissimilar to my own region. the home has taken on the responsibility of restoring the family farmhouse and I am sure that in the future it will be transformed into a lovely home. Even though it was only for a week, I was very happy to be part of that journey. If you like the rural life ,go for it +++

Marixtu is so genuinely passionate about her project and her culture that I found myself becoming invested in her home as well! The location is beautiful with lots of sites accessible by bike and Marixtu was just as committed to making sure I got to experience the area and the culture as she was to working on her home! I highly recommend this experience to anyone interested in cultures and restoration projects as well as for people who like to get outside and experience the outdoors!

Madelin is a very dynamic, respectful and social person. She is both interested and interesting. Interested as she showed interest in the project and in discovering the local culture and the surroundings. Interesting as we shared many discussions about many topics and is always happy to share her point of view or to bring new perspective. I recommend Madelin to the Worldpackers community.

The home is a wonderful host, she made us feel at home away from home, We enjoyed working with her, the tasks are simple and the home was always there to help and guide us when needed, she made sure that we had have time to explore the nearby places and had fun while volunteering could not have asked for a better host.

Abhinav and Dev came here for a week which got shorter due to a travelling delay, but we organised ourselves so that the work would be done and so that they could still enjoy the surroundings. They are both very social persons, willing to help and to do it right, willing to do new things, they have been very respectful towards both myself and the place. I totally recommend them both as a team and as individuals.

I learned a lot about sustainable living and all the things we already get from nature. The work was fun too. the home is a very nice person and gave me great travel advices! Also she showed me a great hike which I did the next day. The landscape is amazing as it is not far from the beach and the mountains. Also you can communicate when you want to take a day off and work another day instead which is really great :) When you come to the home's place, just keep in mind that it is a very old house and that you have to bring your own food for the days off and dinner!

Thank you for you feedback Hanna.
Regarding the old house and the food, let me point out that it is indicated in the position description but maybe you did not entirely read it. I apologize for not reminding it when we talked over the phone before you came; I remember not having my notebook with me when you called as I was working on the project and I was just trying to adapt to your last minute application.
I wish you to find a place n conditions which better fit you expectations next time.
