My time at the hostel was magical! The staff are WONDERFUL especially the managers Grace, Greg, and Callum, and the entire bar/restaurant staff whom I worked with the most. Everyone makes you feel like family there, and that you are really part of the team. Lanquin is fairly isolated so you have to be prepared to spend your free time/days off at/around the hostel, perfect for days of reading or other creative hobbies/working.

I had such a great time volunteering at the hostel! I was there for a month and a half teaching English to staff members. It's such a beautiful place to stay. Although it's slightly secluded I was always able to keep myself busy, but I also had plenty of time to relax in the jungle. The staff was incredibly welcoming, I made so many strong relationships with them as well as other volunteers. It's definitely a party vibe, so make sure that's something you're comfortable being around. I would absolutely recommend spending some time volunteering at the hostel!! It was instantly my home away from home :)

I had a good time at the hostel. The scenery is beautiful, I loved waking up there! We worked many hours, 6 hours 6 days a week. It can be boring sometimes or can be busy/draining, but the jobs are simple. You do all the tasks of the restaurant + bar, and may run activities like Karaoke which is fun. To enjoy this role, it's best to love being social because you constantly interact with new people in a social party environment. When not working there isn't much to do in the area so you should be a person that is comfortable with that. Relax in the jungle!

My stay at the hostel has been beyond lovely! The team and volunteers are like family, you will be welcomed with open arms and every person involved cares so much about the hostel. The work is fine, you work 6 hours a day, 6 days a week, and its easy to learn. Lanquin is gorgeous and even though the hostel is quite secluded, you can easily walk to town or to the river. I am beyond grateful for everyone here, especially owner/manager Grace. My first month here i was the only girl and she always supported me and made me feel safe, as she does for everyone.🫶🏼

The hostel is a beautiful place where you can connect with nature, the work is easy and fun! And also gives you the chance to meet travelers from all over the world every day. The staff is amazing, everyone is friendly and makes you feel at home. I practice my english, I learn about the local culture, it's incredible to hear the locals speak q'eqchi! I'm leaving with wonderful memories, new friends, new skills and a new family. Thanks to everyone for everything I learned, the kindness and love I received, and for making my experience unforgettable! Los voy a extrañar mucho, espero volver pronto(:

If you are looking to explore Lanquin and Semuc Champey this is the best way to do it but you will soon find the real beauty lies in the people. I met tons of incredibly interesting and awesome people from all over the world, formed deep and heartfelt connections with the other volunteers and locals, and left with my heart full of all the love I received from everyone there. I arrived looking for an opportunity to learn and grow and left with my expectations exceeded. I learned a lot about the world, about people and about myself. If anything resonates the hostel is the place for you.

The hostel is an experience where I immersed myself in the local culture; listening to the locals in their native language is amazing! Despite several hours of work and having to work during Easter week, which was a lot, I had fun! They were always flexible and understanding. I was able to develop many skills, thanks to everyone for welcoming me ❤️

My time here has been amazing, offering professional growth and immersion in Maya culture. Hearing Maya spoken casually at work has been a joy. Life at the hostel, amidst serene surroundings, is bustling but relaxing. Despite brief encounters, the local community at the hostel feels like family. My supportive manager tailors opportunities to our skills, and as an Instagrammer, I've shared the beauty of the place. While visitors come for tours like the Lanquín River and Semuc Champey, it's the warmth of the local community that truly sets this experience apart. #SenseOfBelonging

Must have stamina! I loved my time here, I ended up extending by 2 weeks but it does require a high degree of energy and adaptability. The shifts are all bartending and creating a fun environment for the guests, but it's also a full on restaurant job so accuracy, speed and customer service are also important. The days are 6.5 hours a day, 6 days a week which is a bit more than advertised, but still leaves plenty of time to enjoy the hostel and activities. Overall it was an amazing time as long as you are up for it! The friends you make along the way will be worth all the sleepless night
