Female Housekeeping volunteer in London

Spain

Me and my friend came here as volunteers for the first time and it was really good. We were doing this while we were enjoying life in london. Work wasn't hard and few hours a week. Installations are good and there are a lot of bathrooms so no problem for that. We were also sharing the room with another volunteer girl and there wasn't also any problem with that. Also the ubication is really good Everything was really good and we got to know a lot the city!!

Violeta and Marisol were awesome. We highly recommand them. Always on time, polite, respectful and committed to their tasks. They get on with all the Team and the residents, so it was a real pleasure having them here. You definitively can rely on them. Thanks very much to both of you for your contribution to Leinster House. We wish you the best in your future endeavor ! :)

My experience was positive, yes the work is tiring, but the possibility of staying 1 month in London with accommodation and food in one of the most expensive cities to live in the world, made up for it for sure. The Manager Cyril is a polite and pleasant person, the place is close to the Underground, the people in the hostel are nice and kind. If you have no problem cleaning toilets and working as housekeeping, this volunteering can bring you good times in London. I recommend this volunteer and thank you for the opportunity.

Thiago was one of our best volunteer working here. He was really involved in all the tasks. Always in a good mood, he gets on with everyone in the hostel so we had a good experience working with him. Thanks very much for your input. We would highly recommend him as a World Packer. And he is more than welcome any time to come here.
Thanks Thiago

This was my first experience as a volunteer and overall it was very good! The work is scheduled with many things to do, but is still flexible. Cyril, Nadia and Chistian are very welcoming and super nice, ready to help you. The only thing was that in the kitchen were missing some basic things to cook. But it was a very great experience to start!

It was one of the best experiences I've had with WorldPackers so far. The work was not difficult and I had plenty of time to get to know the city and have fun. We had pretty much every meal (which was really good). The volunteers' room was very spacious. Cyril, Nadia and Cristian were always very polite and willing to help. One thing that could improve would be to have a kitchen equipped and prepared for cooking. I highly recommend this volunteer! Thank you for everything Cyril

I do not recommend at all. To begin with, they charged me for the room for coming a day before (I had warned them and they told me) but I don't understand it was my room and it wasn't occupied. They are too demanding with cleanliness, they forget that we are going to help, not work... the volunteer bathrooms are super dirty and old and you have to go to another floor. The food is repetitive and scarce, you have to go to another hostel to eat. There were no cooking utensils, I insisted on several occasions and now there are.

If you are looking for a cultural exchange, DONT go to the hostel. the hostel isn't a hostel, it is a residency where people live, so they have their own lifes and they won't talk to you because they aren't interested. the hostel hasn't got any employees, so they will treat you as an employee instead of as a volunteer. They'll give one floor to clean with a review with the you have to improve every week. they promised a full equipment kitchen, but instead they'll give an empty one with a fridge and a microwave but nothing else. You have to go to another hostel to get dinner and breakfast.

Dear Florencia,
We are sorry that your volunteering experience didn't meet your expectations. In our hostel, we have a lot of long term students and workers that are busy but really friendly. But most of our volunteers find the opportunity to socialize and make friends with other Worldpackers and volunteers when they go for breakfast and dinner, that we offer in one of our sister hostel nearby. The kitchen is fully equipped with Fridge, kettle, microwave, hotplate, oven etc. And we recently purchase cookware and cutleries exclusively for our Worldpackers following their feedbacks. We are always opened for constructive feedbacks as it is our first experience with Worldpackers. We hope that nonetheless, you enjoyed living in the center of London and made the best of all the sightseeing we have nearby: Hyde Park, Notting Hill, Portobello Road, Oxford Street and all the museums.
We wish you all the best in your future endeavor.

Very friendly staff, excellent location and good food (bkfast+dinner). They could improve the kitchen, there was an oven/appliances, but no pans/cups/mugs/cutlery, so it was hard to cook. The shifts are 3:30h day/6d per week and were quite intense, as the place is huge - daily cleaning of 4-8 toilet rooms, 4-6 shower rooms, 1-2 kitchens and 1-2 rooms, besides vacuuming corridors etc. It's not a hostel, people there live more long-term (students, workers, older people). It was quite intense work for volunteer job and not much fun/learning. For me it was an okay experience, nothing outstanding.

It was a good experience overall. They provide you breakfast and dinner so you can save money. They respect working time, it is not to much work time per day and you really feel that you have a lot of free time after work. the hostel is not like a normal hostel, it is rather a residence, so the ambient is different becuase there are people that have been living there for 5 or 10 years so it is just different, more quiet. One thing i didn't like is that although there is a kitchen, they don't provide any basic equipment to cook or to eat ( cutlery, pans, frying pan, etc).
