Volunteer to help build a medieval Gothic edifice in France!

It's hard to understate the sheer ambition required to build a Gothic edifice from the ground up. It's not something that people really do anymore, but they're doing it anyway. *We, I should say. We're doing it anyway. It was an incredible privilege to join the host team, if only for 3 short weeks. Sam & co were so warm and welcoming, thrilled to host volunteers and share their vision. You could feel the energy and excitement rising, not just onsite, but with every interview request, every local who's come to contribute another €20 to tour the work in progress. Truly inspiring.

The host is a nice place to go in order to practise lenguages and knowing new good people. They threatened me very well and the food was delicious. The job was hard but you have free weekends. You can adapt yourself to work hard and improve your knowledge in many things. I am a city girl but I am very glad to had lived this fantastic experience and I recomend it a lot.

My son and I spent two weeks at the host. It rained cats and dogs sometimes, we get used to some mud and discovered sore muscles that we didn't know we had… but we wished we could have stayed longer. The growing gothic edifice, being as impressive as it is, is dwarfed by the unlikely, inspiring and welcoming group of people formed by Don, Sam and the British residents and regular volunteers, Jim and Mark, plus the extra visit of ever smiling Sam's sister. We loved the work and learned a lot, but if you finally go you will soon learn that the best is the flesh and blood behind the stone.

Sam and Donald are very welcoming and make sure their volunteers are cosy and enjoying themselves. Their project would seem wildly unrealistic if not impossible - except it's really happening. I loved being out in nature, working with my hands, discussing history for hours, learning skills such as stone masonry and stone carving. I loved to contribute, however humbly, to a building designed to last centuries. Now I know there's a place for me to come back to when I need to get away from the city, a place where to deeply rest while creating something beautiful.

Changemoi is way out in the countryside in Morvan. It is so quiet, all you hear at times is the squeeling of the neighbours donkey. But at the host the energy is high, due to the commitment of the three main persons Sam, Mark and Jim to their extrordinary project. And this energy is so inspiring to the voluteer, that you learn to live with the anger all the times the mortar falls out of the little holes in the cieling you try to squeese it into. Thank you Mark for a lovely goodbuy party at your home.

Me encantó mi experiencia en la organización. Pude aprender de arquitectura gótica, historias e inspiración, trabajar en construcción, sacar músculo 😂 pero también me dejaron ayudar en redes sociales, lo que me pareció muy bien ese equilibrio Los hosts son un amor, siempre tratando de que estés bien y preguntando. Estuve junto a otros 9 voluntarios, y aunque a veces era dificil la convivencia, me ayudó a crecer, me llevo muy buenos amigos Recomendado al 100%

Mi tiempo en la organización ha sido un mes increíble. Aunque no trabajamos en el edificio gótico propiamente debido a las fechas y a la organización del proyecto, todas las tareas que realizamos fueron por y para ayudar al futuro de toda la construcción. De verdad le agradezco a Sam, a Jim y a Donald por hacer todo lo que hacen con cariño y con las mejores intenciones. Para los futuros voluntarios, les recomiendo ir preparados para conocer personas maravillosas y hacer parte de un proyecto increíble que va a dejar una huella por muchos años.

Mi tiempo en the organization ha terminado, y como dijo Sam ayer, parece un largo sueño del que me acabo de despertar. He tenido la suerte de poder soñar durante 3 semanas al menos. El lugar es increíble, recomiendo ir en septiembre. El trabajo en la construcción es muy bonito, y también variado. Cada día pude aprender algo nuevo. Sam, Mark y Jim (miss you all), son personas muy lindas y receptivas, siempre sentí mucho amor y humor en el ambiente. Los voluntarios que conocí allí se han convertido en buenos amigos y doy gracias a la experiencia por unirme con ellos ^^ Pd: lleva crema para las manos

C'est une chance incroyable de vivre en communauté et d'aider une personne à concrétiser le un rêve fou! Sam, Mark et Jim sont accueillants avec tout le monde, il est rare de rencontrer des personnes aussi ouvertes. Merci pour les sorties qui agrémentent le passage.
