Volunteer at our Backpacker's Hostel in Beautiful PEI!
The experience
We only require that you work in the hostel for 20-24 hours per week at most in exchange for a free bed in our staff accommodation next door. Duties include preparing breakfast, cleaning bathrooms, making beds, doing laundry, taking reservations, checking in guests, giving tours of the hostel, assisting guests with directions, dealing with payment, etc. Training is provided and we encourage positive, outgoing interactions between staff & guests.
What you offer
24 hours of help per week
Kitchen Hand:
Help prepare, finish and serve meals.
Cleaning:
Help clean the kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms and common areas.
Housekeeping:
Help with changing the bed linens and general housekeeping.
Reception:
Help with check-ins, check-outs and guest assistance.
What you get
2 days off per week
Team Dorm:
You will have a bed in a shared room, which means you will share the same room with other people.
Breakfast:
You are entitled to a free breakfast, every day of your stay.
Free Laundry:
You can use our laundry room freely.
Bikes at your disposal:
You can use our bikes any time you want.
Pick Up:
We will pick you up when you arrive, and take you to our property.
Use our equipped kitchen:
Feel free to use our kitchen and make your own delicious food.
Basic Internet Access:
Basic speed internet for you to work remotely

Program Details
Thanks for your interest in working with us at HI-Charlottetown Backpackers Inn! Here in Charlottetown we offer a unique volunteer experience. Located 5 minutes walk from downtown, our hostel is a cozy renovated home with room for 21 guests at full capacity. We offer free breakfast, Wi-Fi, and linen to all of our staff and guests and we have an extensive collection of movies and vinyl records for your enjoyment while you stay with us. We also have a BBQ, a pool table and fun activities that go on at the bars downtown during the week such as open mics, trivia nights, dances, and live music. We ask all volunteers are either already in Canada travelling, or already have working-holiday visas.

- ensure building is secured and evenings remain peaceful

- support and assistance with team members or guests.
Rules
Staff accommodations must be kept clean and tidy at all times.
Volunteers are permitted to cook during the hours of 6am-10pm but must be present in the kitchen while cooking.
You will be responsible for replacing/paying for replacement of dishes or appliances broken or damaged by misuse.
No wet towels or items will be left on the floor or on wood furnishings. Any damages as a result of water damage or other damages due to negligence will result in a fee.
No illegal activities. No harassment tolerated.
No tampering with thermostat, smoke alarms, or radiators.
Door code is not to be shared with others and invited guests must be approved by management. No Parties.
If volunteers are ill and need to miss a shift, they must make up for the hours at another time or pay the nightly fee of $45 per shift if they missed shifts during their final week.
