I'll definitely be coming back here again. I had a great experience. I met my guy Fabris when I first arrived, and he explained everything really clearly. The manager, Sunil, was also super friendly and made sure my schedule stayed flexible. Kuala Lumpur is a beautiful city with a really good vibe. Just a heads-up: make sure to bring an umbrella—it rains often! Looking forward to being back soon.

I only volunteered at the hostel for a few days, and then moved to Step In, which has the same owner. the hostel was very quiet, it's not a very sociable hostel, although in a very good location - right next to Jalan Alor food street. Reception duties were easy. I really loved my time at Step In though. Reception was a lot busier and can sometimes be a bit chaotic, but it's not a difficult job. The hostel is close to Chinatown and it's easy to explore the city. I made a bunch of friends and would definitely come back if I'm in the hostel again.

Initially based on the description in their worldpackers page, I was meant to do 5-hour shifts for 6 days a week but when I reached, I was asked to do 7-hour shifts. It felt like a full-time job and by the end of it, I was exhausted with no energy to roam around or explore. When asked, they told me to push through till they get someone else but I'm in the city only for a few days and I couldn't miss my chance to roam around the hostel. So I left the place earlier than the agreed upon date. The staff are nice, owners are nice people but expecting volunteers to do the work of a full-time job isn't okay.

I understand your frustration, if the deal was for five hours then you shouldn't have been asked to work more, a deal is a deal.
I don't know what happened since I wasn't there at the time, but I can insure you that it's over because we have a new management and now all terms of our deals are strictly upheld because, again, a deal is a deal:)

I had an amazing time at the hostel in the heart of the hostel, Malaysia. The hosts, especially Pandu, Darcy, and Chris, were incredibly welcoming, creating a warm and friendly atmosphere. The central location made it convenient to explore the city, and the dormitory was clean and well-maintained. What made the experience truly special was the opportunity to meet and connect with fellow international travelers. The work was simple and flexible, allowing for a perfect balance between responsibilities and exploration. Overall, the hostel provided an exceptional stay, and I highly recommend it!

I recommend the hostel! It is in a great location surrounded by street food, clubs, bars, etc. the volunteer dorm had great AC & is gender separated. The work is *just* reception/ check ins/ socializing. The manager Darcy is very flexible with the schedule, which was great! 😊 The only improvements— local staff was constantly late for shift change. Also, when there was problems in the hostel, often times the owners didn't have any policies / rules in place for these situations, which sometimes was stressful. However, I still recommend it for a 1 month, short-term position in the hostel! thank you! 😊🙏🏽
