The experience

Join Wanderframe to capture Gili's coral reef conservation efforts. Volunteer photographers will document coral restoration, underwater ecosystems, and community activities to create website-ready visuals owned by the local community. Your images will support ethical marine tourism, environmental education, and long-term storytelling while engaging with local conservation initiatives.


What you offer

20 hours of help per week

Content Writer: Write, edit and publish inspiring content.

Photography: Take, edit and provide amazing photos.

Video Making: Create, edit and publish digital videos.

Social Media: Maintain and update social media channels.


What you get

3 days off per week

Private Room: You will have a bed in a private room. In other words, a room just for you.


Requirements

Beginner English or Beginner Galician

Between 18 and 35 years old

Welcomes solo volunteers, couples, and partners of volunteers

Program Details

Calling all nature, underwater, and documentary photographers! Join Wanderframe in Gilis to capture community-led coral reef conservation. Photograph coral restoration, marine life, and local engagement to create visuals for the island’s tourism and conservation website. Your images will support ethical marine tourism, environmental education, and long-term storytelling while working closely with the local community.


Activities & Shift

Core Activities

Photograph coral restoration efforts, including planting and monitoring coral fragments
Capture underwater life (snorkeling/diving, optional based on skill level)
Document community engagement, education programs, and daily activities (with consent)
Curate and select photos for community use on websites and campaigns
Participate in briefings, debriefs, and storytelling workshops

Daily Shifts
Morning Shift (06:30 – 10:00)
Best light for coastal landscapes, reef photography, and sunrise shots
Snorkeling or shallow-water photography of coral and marine life

Midday Break (10:00 – 14:00)
Rest, backup files, light editing, and interaction with the community
Afternoon Shift (14:00 – 17:30)
Community-focused photography: education programs, daily life, and portraits
Capture golden hour lighting over the reef and island

Notes
Shifts may adjust depending on weather, tides, or local activities
Volunteers work independently or in small teams
No night photography required
Safety, environmental protection, and consent are top priorities


Rules

Respect the Community
Always ask for consent before photographing people or private spaces. Locals are partners, not subjects.

Follow Ethical Photography Guidelines
No staged scenes, misrepresentation, or exploitation of people, culture, or environment.

Use Your Own Equipment Responsibly
Bring and manage your camera gear safely, especially in marine and shared spaces.

Protect Marine Life & Nature
Do not touch or damage coral, disturb wildlife, or leave litter on land or in water.

Safety Comes First
Follow instructions from local guides and marine coordinators, particularly during snorkeling, diving, and boat activities.

Respect Cultural Norms
Dress appropriately and follow local customs at all times.

Image Usage Agreement
Selected photos will be shared with the community and Wanderframe for non-commercial use. Photographers retain credit.

Professional Conduct
Be punctual, communicate clearly, and treat fellow volunteers, staff, and locals with respect.

No Alcohol or Substance Use During Activities
Volunteers must remain fully aware and responsible during all fieldwork.

Follow Local Coordination
Final decisions in the field are made by local facilitators and Wanderframe coordinators.
