Trontveit Gard (Trontveit Farm)

Hello, this is Lily and Trond from Trontveit Farm (Gård in native language) in Telemark, Norway, we bought this farm early spring 2022 and have loads of things to fix and maintain.

Trontveit Farm is what’s left from an old small farm up in the lower mountains of western Telemark, it’s history goes so far back as to the 1600’s and the attitude are 330 m (1000 ft).

The Nisser freshwater lake are right below the farm and you have a great view from Trontveit, it is one of the largest lakes in Norway, it is 35 kilometers long and it is a good possibility for fishing.

To tell a little bit about ourselves, we are both born 18th May, though Lily in year 1974 and Trond in year 1971. We both have health issues that makes thing go a little too slow and we kinda need a little help with different things, such as; technical help with our Tractor, renovating our house, build a new chicken coop, day to day farming duties, planting plants, plow and work the fields. That is just few of the things we need assistance with. We have right now 27 chicken and roosters, 6 cute little ducks and we also have a 11 month old chocolate colored Labrador, Luna. We are planning in the future to have more animals at the farm. The neighbor have over 250 sheep that graces the land around our farm, from May to July you will see cute little sheep running around the fields. We will be totally frank and let you know that Trontveit Farm are quite primitive at the moment and that is one of the reason we reaching out to invite worldpacker to our place, to help us rebuild the farm as it is old and worn down. We have running water, toilet, shower, washer, dryer and a dishwasher in our house… though… temporarily placed inside

Treungen was the second stop of my long-awaited visit to Norway. Lily and Trond welcomed me with much warmth and joy, introducing me to the peaceful valley of Nissedal—a magnificent mountainous enclave—where we spent three wonderful weeks together. October marked the end of the apple season, and our work thus included picking apples from a scenic orchard as well as pressing them for juice (which will eventually become cider). In addition to this, it was delightful to care for Luna and the birds and to assist my hosts with their renovation, learning about their plans for their beautiful farm.

We were excited for farming and building, as stated on the ad. Sadly we only worked in the garden for 1 afternoon in the 2 weeks that we stayed. The rest of the time was mostly spend cleaning, doing dishes, organizing, feeding animals and moving lots of rocks/dirt from the basement.

At arrival they told us that they would be gone for five days, so we were on our own. We get that they also need a vacation, but we would have liked to have known beforehand.

For us it wasn’t really what we had expected. Trond and Lily are nice so we think this could be a good place for some people 😄

They was also given task that are necessary and every WP are given, stuff like clean the house once a week, load and unload the dishes, tending to the chicken by giving them food and fresh water everyday and also watch them while they are out due to predators. Sadly some of those task are boring and not as exciting for some. In the time period they was here, there are not many garden task to be done. Due to certain circumstances, it was not possible to do any work inside while they was here.

Me and my boyfriend spent two weeks with Lily, Trond and the animals. It was our first experience like this so we didn’t really know what to expect, but it turned out even better than we expected. Lily and Trond are open, heartfelt and funny people and it really felt like home while staying with them. They really tried to show us different kinds of work so everyday looked a bit different and we learned a lot. During the stay we experienced a lot, from heavy work, to animal care, deep talks and a lot more.

We really recommend staying with Lily and Trond and really hope to come back someday!

This was one of the most enriching experiences I've had. The hosts are super open and caring people who make sure everyone feels seen and involved. The tasks were varied and well-suited to each volunteer. We did chores around the barn, cooked meals and tended the animals. I learned so much from Lily and Trond, not only practical skills but also about their way of living. The house is in a simple state due to renovations, but the atmosphere more than makes up for it: it was always full of good vibes. The fact that they host multiple volunteers at once made it really fun too. Highly recommended!
