The Organic Learning Center but in Spanish known as CAO...Centro Aprendizaje Orgánico

The Organic Learning Center is a school teaching young adults organic farming. The location is scenic, very peaceful and filled with lots of nature, social and cultural opportunities. Because we do not offer a cookie cutter experience, most volunteers help design their own program by express expressing their preferences.

The four staff people are bilingual in English and Spanish but the students speak mostly Spanish. Students and staff are very friendly and welcoming of volunteers. There are normally volunteers on campus. Students often go to town in the afternoons and weekends and always invite volunteers to go with them. Accomodations at the Organic Learning Center are clean, simple, new but rustic. We use a composting toilet which has no offensive aroma nor flies etc. It is a working farm in a rural mountainous area. All of our previous volunteers have left us great reviews. We are eager to begin hosting Worldpackers as well. See us on Instagram address at cao_honduras

Even before I arrived in Quimistan I felt taken care of. The directors gave me more than enough information on specific directions to the location and offered to pick me up from the bus station. I was unexpectedly met with my own private studio, A/C and my own bathroom. I had the amazing opportunity to live with 2 absolutely lovely families that made me feel like a part of their family. All three meals and laundry were provided to me. Every single teacher I met was sincerely dedicated to their job and welcomed me with open arms. I can confidently say that I learned way more than I taught.

Madeline is the ideal volunteer. Very helpful. Totally positive. A pleasure to be with. Students and staff enjoyed working and serving and relaxing and learning together with her.

Glen and the people at CAO are really nice! They take care of you as if you are family. It’s also a great way to learn Spanish with the guys who work at CAO. Lastly the chance to also get to teach English at the school HIBS is awesome!
