The Mud Manor

Hello! Ciao! We are Resi and Vince. We moved to our 12 acres paradise in 2016 and we have welcomed plenty of helpers to help us make our dream a reality!

++++

Our journey started in 2013, when we packed up our home in North Wales and travelled to Australia, New Zealand and Italy, mostly working for accommodation. We have learnt a huge wealth of information, visited amazing places and made great forever friends. We have now decided to give something back to the helpers community.

Resi, 50s, is Italian but lived for over 20years in the UK before moving to Australia, thanks to Vince, 40s, who is Australian and together we have settled in North East Victoria, in a lovely town called Beechworth.

Our home is a 12 acres lifestyle block and started as an empty canvas. Over the years, we have planted over 400 trees, a fruit orchard, improved fencing, created a veggie patch and other improvements.

What’s to do on your day off? Beechworth is a gold mining town with heaps and heaps of history and character. Google it and look for the 'Explore Beechworth', there are plenty of videos to inspire you. During winter we are about 2hrs drive to the ski slopes of Falls Creek and Mount Hotham (note, there are a few charges to access the ski fields - ask us about it!) Bushwalking and camping abounds and there are lots of free camping places to go and explore. We are also in a prime wine making area, cycle tracks abound and if micro brewing interests you, every local town has at least one micro-brewery!

What we expect? Exchange is for 21hrs work in exchange for all week food and lodging. We will provide all the food you need for all the time you are staying with us and a comfy place to sleep (including bedding! we get asked this a lot!) and fair use of the washing machine - this is Australia and water is at a premium! We welcome helpers in our home and we hope you will enjoy the home experience, we do expect for helpers to help out with running the house; this could be cooking dinner or cleaning after dinner, normal stuff you would be doing at home and a welcome guest would help out with. We do eat meat, however during summer time is mostly vegetarian, with some yummy bacon or something! If you are vegetarian or vegan, let’s chat - that is not an issue - but we will need to do some extra planning! Resi used to be vegan and we also like to eat vegetarian, so it’s not a problem. This also applies to any other dietary requirements within reason. And if you enjoy cooking, we most definitely will like to hear from you!

I really enjoyed my week with Resi and Vinnie! They were both very welcoming and made me feel right at home in their cosy house. I enjoyed lots of delicious food everyday ( tiramisu 😋 ), and my tasks were well organised, getting to do a good variety of gardening, farm help, and joining in on hiking with the dogs - all of which I enjoyed!
I had plenty of time to explore the local area on my days off, doing a full day of mountain biking and another of hiking in the beautiful surroundings.
I would highly recommend staying at the dog house farm!

This is such an incredible experience! Resi & Vince are so welcoming, kind, and willing to share in great conversation and experiences. I learned a lot about dog training and running a small local business in the community. I also had the chance to plant season appropriate crops. The bike ride to town is super straightforward and they are conscious of you having a great experience while working as well as time off. Staying for the full two weeks is great way to get into a routine and build connections. I loved going on all the various hikes with the dogs and getting some quality doggo time.

I had the best time on the Dogfarm! Resi and Vince where the best Hosts and i really enjoyed to be part of the Dogfarm and their Household! It was so great that everything was so well organized and i always knew in advance what i was going to do! To be surrounded by dogs and other animals (goats/gees/cows and chickens) was my favorite but i also enjoyed the gardening work very much and i have learned many new things for which i'm very grateful! I could use their bikes on my days off and explore the beautiful surroundings🥰
I can definitely highly recommend this volunteer experience!

I had so much fun staying with Resi and Vince! They made delicious dinners and went above and beyond to help me have fun experiences on my days off. I enjoyed the work I did, but wouldn’t say it’s easy. The three fulls days and four rest days made it very manageable, but expect to do good work in those three days. I would definitely recommend this to travelers that are looking to make adventures for themselves in nature and see Australian countryside living.

Resi and Vince where so nice! The house was cozy and they made so yummy dinners! Work was sometimes really tiring but you learned new things through it. The dogs where all fun so it got never boring in the house. And Resi made sure we had free time after fullfilling our working hours. Thank you for having me!
