The Holbergs

To experience and explore Denmark: The place where most happy people live ha ha just joking. DK has been awarded The happiest place on earth but since I am a therapist I do see a lot of unhappy people. Anyway. We live in a tiny country so it is easy to see many places and neighbour countries. Because we as a family have lived a lot of different places (7 different countries) and we are open to meeting international people. We would love to hear about your culture and though we are introverts ourselves, we enjoy chatting a bit over lunch or dinner. If you like nature, countryside and calm living then you should come here. Except sometime it is not quiert here as we have teenagers... so sometimes we have teenage fights etc. but its all part of the experience and you can always go into your room.

We are not a typical Danish family though. I would say we are more international. I am adopted from South Korea and Sven is from Germany. We have 2 teenagers (21.05.2011): Isabella and Alexander and our dog Foxy. We are easy going people but both introverts and very busy so you need to also be independant and selfdriven as we have crazy periods where we work all the time. If you are very social and need to be around people all the time then this is not a good place because we are so busy ourselves. We will have time to chat during lunch and dinner but we don't have time to be social more than that. There is no stupid question in this house and if you dislike something please come and tell us so we can change things for the better. Working hours are 5 hours a week and 2 days off. It is mainly a housekeeping position because tasks are mostly cleaning and cooking but also other easy ad hoc tasks will need to be done like garden work or "babysitting" our teenagers if we are not home. Copenhagen (the capital in Denmark) is 1 hour away by train and you can borrow a bike to go to the beach (5km away) or to Næstved town (5 km away). If you like nature then you will love our place as we have forest and beach very close. If you want to see how other volenteers found their stay here pls. check them out here or under video gallery: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLQ5jUAvFdjItUFD2g4VIFv9htPiiAHTq5

It was the most amazing experience ever! The tasks were simple, changes every day, what is amazing to provide more experience. I was invited to play basketball and paddle tenis with the family, and was amazing, I had so much fun!
Pernille was perfect, so kind and lovely, she became my example as woman, mom, entrepreneur and house manager. I love her energy and her principles and loved to learn from her!
I 100% recommend her and her family, we had our meals together and talked about a lot of things. They are kind and supportive.
Thank you for the staying!

If you’re looking for a home away from home, this is the place! It felt like a staycation while I was there. You get a lot of time to yourself after completing the tasks, which were just things you would normally do at home, like folding laundry, washing dishes, cleaning. All tasks were easy and straightforward, and Pernille gives you a list of things to do for the day which makes time management very easy. You can spend your free time going to the towns, visit the beach or train into Copenhagen! It makes a great first time volunteering experience!

I had a great time with Holbergs family and do recomend this experience. If you're looking for a peacefull stay meanwhile you help with daily chores, get involve in the culture and practice your english, this opportunity is for you. All were super friendly with me, Pernille and Sven were there, always willing to help me or give me advice. The kids were in between of school and other activities, but got the chance to know them a little bit as well. Foxy is a lovely dog, enjoy going out for walk and recieve massages. Feel like home in here, thanks for everything and hope to see you all again 🫶✨

I stayed here for 2 weeks and this was my first experience with Worldpackers, I’m really glad I chose them because they are a great family! Super friendly and nice! I felt like at home.
The tasks are very easy, mainly it’s cooking and cleaning but everyday is different so you will not get bored.
You also have a lot of free time so you can bike to the city or to the beach, take walks with Foxy or organise your day how you prefer!
I’d recommend this experience to anyone who wants to try how is the life in Denmark.
Hopefully i will see them again when i’ll come back to Copenhagen :D

Eileen is so sweet. She is great at cooking chinese dishes and she is a quick learner. She is super clever and we enjoyed hearing about her studies and way of life in China. We hope to visit her some day in Oxford. She was so kind to invite us. All the best to you Eileen.
