The accommodation was great and Debra was very welcoming in her home. Unfortunately no WiFi and the mobile network was intermittent in the area. I only stayed for a short time and did mainly manual tasks and outdoor groundworks, so didn't see much of the beekeeping which I had hoped for as part of this experience.

I spent a week volunteering here and really enjoyed my time. Debra is a fun, welcoming host, and I settled in quickly. There's always something to do- lots of gardening (mainly weeding), chopping fruits/veggies, going out to the hives, honey processing, admin work, etc! I would recommend bringing some dark clothes that you don't mind getting dirty (because you definitely will). Thank you Debra for the amazing experience and all of the yummy food! 🌸🌷🐝

Debra was an eccentric host. I was tasked with various jobs around her Lennox head home such as painting, gardening and cleaning out old bee hive boxes. The location and room were comfortable and beautiful. Debra was generous and made sure I was always fed with delicious home made meals.
The only downside to the experience was that at times I felt I had to be stepping on eggshells around the home and am unsure if the host appreciated having me around at times. This may have been as a result of the volunteer before me having to be kicked out early due unfulfilled tasks that made the host wary

Volunteering for the Colony Bees with Debra was an amazing experience. Learning about bees and their health properties as well as getting hands on experience with beekeeping was surreal! I also helped out at two markets which was a lovely way to interact with the local culture. I spent lots of time cooking and gardening as well which was fun, easy and straight forward. I felt very well taken care of at Debra’s. You get a lot of independence and time to yourself here so you can fill it however you like. For me it was nice to slow life down and enjoy the beauty surrounding me.

I had a wonderful time during my 6-week stay. I did a lot of weeding, helped at 2 markets, inspected the hives twice, & handled some ad-hoc admin tasks.
Debra's beautiful home felt like a wellness retreat. Though a bit out of the way without a car, you can walk to the shops & the beach in about 40 mins, & there's a bus to Byron Bay that runs 4 times a day.
Debra is a uniquely fascinating host with refreshing perspectives. She is very welcoming -cooking me delicious home-cooked meals, taking me to local areas & introducing me to friends so I got the true Northern Rivers experience.
