Thai Hai Reserve Area of Ecological Houses-on-stilts Village (Thai Hai Village)

Thai Hai Village - one of 32 ‘Best Tourism Villages 2022’ by the United Nations of Tourism (UN Tourism)
Thai Hai Village is the result of Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Hai's dedication to preserve traditional cultural values of Tay ethnic group in Vietnam and contribute to building a just and humane society and sustainable development.
More than 30 original stilt houses, at least half a century old was rebuilt and restored in a natural area surrounded by hills and trees in Thai Hai Village. Not only the house's structure but also the ethos of Tay culture, the soul and vitality of the traditional values were preserved and passed on from generation to generation.
Day after day, the villagers cultivate and raise livestock, grow fruits and green tea to accommodate for their daily life, and to serve tourists who come to the village. Together, they form a community that “Eat Together, Share Together”, preserves and promotes their traditional cultural values. After a working day, they gather around the fireplace of the house and sing Then songs (Tay’s traditional singing) with “dan tinh” (traditional musical instrument), with flute and traditional “nang then” dance, together creating a very peaceful and cozy atmosphere.
Good news has wings. Numerous visitors from near to afar are curious and come to visit to which they then grow fond of Thai Hai Village. Thousands of people from more than 30 countries around the world find themselves here for these simple yet intriguing experiences, to then remember and feel attached to great extent...

We are the friendly villagers of Thai Hai and would love the opportunity to welcome you to our village. Come join us and enjoy your time here as a member of the Thai Hai family! Follow us on FB or INS if you want to look for more photos and activities in our village. <3

We felt so welcomed here — the whole community is like a big family, and we truly felt part of it.

We were teaching English to small classes of 4–6 kids, never more than 4 hours a day plus prep (which took us some time since we had no prior experience)

The food was tasty and healthy, mostly what they grow themselves. There was always rice, pork, and cabbage and sometimes there would be alternatives.

Since it was summer break we lived at the school with the kids — simple facilities (bed on the floor and shared bathroom) but a wonderful chance to be close to them.

My experience at Thai Hai Village was absolutely excellent! The community is incredibly warm and welcoming, and I felt at home from the very first day. The kids are sweet, fun, and full of energy – spending time with them was a joy. The food was delicious and healthy, and I really enjoyed sharing meals with everyone. The whole atmosphere is peaceful, authentic, and full of kindness. I truly loved everything about this place and feel so grateful for the time I spent here. Highly recommended!

The people saw you as a part of their community which was really special. They also value the education of children and the whole village support eachother. I absolutely loved volunteering here! I would recommend it to anyone. I felt welcomed from the moment I arrived because everyone is so kind and lovely. An is so helpful with any questions and helped us organise taxis too. All of the kids are lovely to teach and I quickly picked up the schedules of the lessons! Also I’m vegan and the kitchen always accommodated with extra tofu/ vegetables and the food was always delicious. If you’re thinking about volunteering here, do it !! Thank you for everything An:))
