Tanzanite Nursery School

Karibu - Welcome
If you want to make a difference to the lives of deprived and homeless children then you are more than welcome at Tanzanite Education Foundation.

The children want to learn, meet volunteers from other countries and more than anything make friends.
You will never be forgotten
We want the children to be given the best education possible, widen their knowledge and broaden their experience of the wider world.
You can be part of the daily routine by providing teaching of English and Maths, or playing sports, dance or just having fun.
There are 2 classrooms and 3 teachers

Volunteers so far have helped
- teach inside the classroom
- teach our students sports/games
-renovate classrooms
-raise money for projects (recently we built a new bathroom)
-plant trees
-donate sports equipment
-donate stationery
-plant gardens

Salimu's long term plan is for the nursery to provide an education to the deprived children of Mbauda. Providing children with fresh water and food. Reducing poverty in the local community with fresh fruit and vegetables to be grown at the nursery. To establish a chicken cage for a minimum 100 chickens, so that the eggs can be provided to parents to encourage daily meals. Continue to increase the social media presence, to encourage more volunteers but also identify corporate donation and sponsorship.
The dream is to build a new school to continue educating and eliminating poverty through volunteers, sponsorship, donation and Gods willing.

Thank you for your message and showing your commitment to volunteering and making a difference to humanity across the world.

Based upon my time volunteering at the Nursery during 2024, below is some information which hopefully will support your decision to volunteer with Salimu.
I was with Salimu and his amazing family, staying with them for 3 weeks, Amina his wife and children want to learn, share their lives with you, most importantly they treated me as part of the family.
The school is about 5 minutes away from where you will stay. The children start arriving at 8am, but classes generally start at 9am. The school day lasts for 4-5 hours, is split into 2, porridge is at 1100 ish every day, there are a couple of play times, a lunch time.
Parents begin to collect their children from 2 pm onwards through to 5-6pm.
There is lots of free time, the days are flexible and you can participate in any way you wish.
You can prepare your own lessons, teach, support the teachers, carry out activities with the children; sport, art, dance, music, play or anything else that you feel happy to do.
I spent a lot of the time just watching, playing, very little teaching, talking to Salimu about his family, dreams etc and watching the world go by. Saying hello to anyone walking past, the locals are keen to chat, learn.
I did a lot of social media stuff to improve awareness.

Airports
There are two options available:
Arusha Airport ( ARK) – Domestic flights
Kilimanjaro Airport ( JRO) - International and Domestic

Weather
https://www.meteo.go.tz/?region=arusha

Communication
A WhatsApp group will be created to improve communication with Salimu, you and myself.

Costs
You can stay for a week minimum, you will stay in the family home, and meals are provided, though there is a minimal charge of US$5 per day to support .
If require airport transfer, the cost is about US$50 each way from Kilimanjaro Airport. Costs from Arusha Airport will be confirmed, but will be lower
You will need a Tanzania visa about $50 it is recommended to obtain online prior to departure.
I spent £200+ on vaccinations, it is your responsibility to ensure that you have the correct vaccinations to meet the Tanzanian Entry Requirements
Mobile phone data is dead cheap this will be purchased locally.

Expectation
Salimu is just grateful for people volunteering, there is no clear requirements, you do what you feel will make a difference.
You will be a teacher, coach, friend, babysitter. It is very much a pole pole “slowly slowly” life, nothing is rushed. If you want to talk this or other stuff through then you can call me.

The Future
Salimu is very passionate about his family, school, pupils and local community, however he needs our support to deliver his vision.
You will make an amazing difference to those that need support but also provide an opportunity for the future.
Your support will enable us to drive the journey of Tanzanite Education Foundation forward and enable Salimu's dream of building a new school.
My goal now is to deliver Salimu's dream of building a new school, I am hoping that this will be achieved during 2026, creating a legacy for this generation and the next.
This can only be achieved by through fundraising, donations, sponsorship from our supporters, volunteers, and Business community.
Can you support our journey after your amazing experience?
There is a JustGiving page available to make donations

Alan spent 3 weeks (April2024) at Tanzanite, he said:
"This was the best experience ever, I was outside my comfort zone. The children are so energetic, eager to learn and want to make friends.
I stayed with Salimu, Amina and the children, they looked after me, cared for me as part of the family, making me feel at home. Nothing was a problem.
I provided teaching materials and donations through JustGiving to provide materials to make a difference.
I will miss everyone when I leave and will hope to return to see how Salimu and future volunteers have shaped the future.

Asante - Thank you

Hi, my name is Salimu and I’m the founder of the Tanzanite Nursery School in Arusha. I'm living with my wife and my four children and as long as you are here, you are treated as a member of our family. Volunteers generally will have their own rooms, and we will provide breakfast, lunch and dinner. Also catering to your dietary requirements. There is no charge for food or accommodation. At school there are 3 full time teachers who are also willing to help you with everything you need. If you are wanting to have your own lessons we are more than happy to help you prepare.

I’m gonna try to put in words how much i enjoyed volunteering with tanzanite.
They are such a beautiful family, so welcoming and always treated me like part of their family. I am so grateful to Sam!!, Amina, Salimu, Salha, Sairath, Sarki and Sahir. I miss you all already <3
Being able to help the teachers in the school was really fun. The kids have a lot of energy and just want to play. This two weeks were so special, if you want to experience a new culture and leave a positive impact, volunteer with them! I went alone, but never felt like it :,) and I will come back for sure

Volunteering with the tanzanite education foundation was honestly one of the best experiences of my life. Salim, Amina and Sam welcomed us like family- we felt loved, safe and cared for. The food was amazing, and we even learnt to cook Swahili meals from Amina and picked up the language too.
The tanzanite nursery school was incredible- the kids were so full of energy and eager to learn, helping teach English and maths was such a rewarding experience. I cannot recommend this place enough. The family truly became our second family and we made life long friendships. I will definitely be back♥️

I could not speak any higher of the experience Salim and Amina provide for their volunteers. The lessons I learned during my time volunteering with them have changed the way I view the world and will stick with me forever. This is truely a life changing experience that I believe everyone must try. The pure love shown by the entire family and children of tanzanite is a feeling I can never forget. Asante sana Salim and Amina, I will be back home soon <3
