Station House

We live in a village just outside the well known university city of Cambridge. It is in the middle of open countryside, yet is only 5 miles from town, 20 minutes by bus or 40 minutes by bicycle to the historic city centre.

It’s a great place to learn and practice English. Lots of conversation practice - kids are especially good English teachers! :-)

The house is right in the middle of ancient fenland countryside...so many lovely walks, rivers, nature... and then there’s Cambridge City... all there for the exploring.

We need help with our garden (we have a large rambling garden that we are in the process of taming!), decorating, DIY renovation jobs in the house and creative play with the children.

We are a friendly family, that is working hard to pay all our bills! We don’t currently have a room in the house but we do have our super comfy-cosy caravan, with electric, heating and very comfy bed. You have full access to the house of course as well. You can be part of our family, helping to cook meals (if you like cooking!) sharing recipes, teaching us about your language, culture and country - we love to learn about different places around the world, and we love to share our culture with you! You must be comfortable with the noise that children bring to a house, we are an early rising household so either be a morning person or a heavy sleeper! :-)

I had a wonderful week with Clare, Kelly, and the kids. From the very first second, I felt 100% welcome. They live just outside of Cambridge, right in the middle of nature, and it’s absolutely beautiful there. As a volunteer, I stayed in a small, cute caravan, which was really nice. On my days off, I cycled into Cambridge to explore the city.
The work is super easy – tidying up and cleaning, taking care of the laundry, spending time with the kids, or helping out with renovations.
Thank you to all four of you for such a lovely time. I’d be happy to come by again :)

As my first experience with world packers, it was lovely and I absolutely recommend Station House! I had a blast with Clare, Kelly and the kids. Everyone was so welcoming, fun to chat and hang out with and also respected my time outside of working hours and privacy. They truly made me feel at home and welcomed. The caravan I stayed in was comfy and cozy. Clare went above and beyond to make sure I had a bike to take into Cambridge and was very flexible with time/availability. The tasks were not complex as the house, kids and property/gardening always kept me busy.

My experience at the station house lasted one month.
The family is very hospitable and pleasant.
My days off each week were respected.
The house is about a 30-minute bike ride from the centre of Cambridge.
I had a lot of fun playing with the children.

Claire was a lovely host and I enjoyed my time with everyone there :) The work was fair and it was great being able to help them. I’m so glad I got to stay here during my time in England!

Aidan and I had a blast staying with Clare and her family. Not only did they make us feel right at home and comfortable, but we had a great time panting and helping them with their move. Clare was easy going and flexible about our working hours and it became so easy to just want to help out with as much as we could because of how comfortably we felt. The Caravan was cozy and warm for our stay! We miss conversations that could have grown into future podcast/talk shows, and would recommend this exchange for anyone!
