Shankaris Artists Sanctuary Studio 22

A traveler should choose to volunteer here for an authentic Bali experience in the peaceful village of Lalanglinggah by the Balian river, away from the tourist crowds. It’s a great opportunity to engage in creative projects like mosaic art, photography, and eco-friendly practices while living in a supportive community. The tranquil setting, combined with cultural exchange and beautiful surroundings, makes it perfect for those seeking a blend of creativity, relaxation, and local immersion.

The heart of this place is Shankari, and her son Ahkasha manages the volunteers. In addition, Nur, a wonderful and kind local, also works in the house. The work is flexible but depends on the weather and current needs. Every Friday evening, the week ends with a shared dinner and a fun talent show, creating a sense of community and enjoyment. Volunteers can expect to be treated warmly, with kindness and understanding, as part of a supportive and friendly team.

Shankari is very nice and it is very interesting to talk with her. All the mosaics look amazing and you feel you are in someone's life project.
Making mosaic was very cool, very creative, there are a bunch of different pieces so you have to figure out how to make it look beautiful with the resources you have, and I liked it, to see the progress and the final result.
The bedroom was not very comfortable in general, that's the downside, but changes were being made while I was there already!

Meet and Work with Shankari was an incredible experience, she’s an amazing artist and woman, I really enjoyed learning mosaic techniques from her and her art, paintings and jewellery are incredible.
Her house is a piece of art that’s she built up over the years, just need a bit of maintenance.

shankari is a beautiful person. i learned about the balinese culture and about her fascinating life. the house is a mosaic palace that needs a bit of love. i think the room in which we stayed is getting fixed up as i write this, which is good because we weren’t very comfortable with the beds and bedding (didn’t feel very safe to sleep in). eitherway i learned a new skill. i loved making mosaics and leaving a mark on the house. you have a lot of time to explore the town and eating with the locals. it’s a nice place to just disappear for a little bit. love you, shankari!!! forever in my heart

This was my first worldpacker experience and I cannot raccomend any better! I learned a beautiful skill and I wish I can have some mosaic in my future place. The house is magical and it is sorrounded by wonderful nature. The work shift was perfect, three hours a day and then we could enjoy the rest of the time exploring Bali and rest. I was lucky because I become friend with the other volunteer, otherwise you don’t really spend time with the host so prepare yourself to be independent. Shankaris invited us twice for dinner and we really appreciated that and were happy to get to know her better
