Settevoci

Our place is in the middle of the countryside between Francavilla di Sicilia and Castiglione di Sicilia. 2km from Francavilla. Around here there is so much to see, visit and enjoy. 300metres from Alcantara river! Not very easy solutions with public transports but connected with Catania, Fontanarossa Airport.

Since 2019 a small group of friends has been based in an isolated area, in the Alcantara Valley, by the suggestive medieval village of Castiglione di Sicilia, under the Etna volcano. We are rebuilding an ancient villa from the 1800s, organizing cultural events, and being a hub for creativity and culture in the valley of the Alcantara River. Immersed in nature we work hard to further our goal of creating an artistic community, self-sufficient, eco-sustainable and creative. We work a lot with reclaimed materials and we organize courses to spread knowledge on herbs, natural food and agriculture, building in eco-sustainable ways, music, and much more. A common dormitory is available but if possible double rooms also.

A truly beautiful experience both on and off the property! I learnt a lot about what it means to live in a community supported by other neighbouring communities.

The work varies a lot depending on the current project, but this was explained before I arrived.

Although all residents can speak english, come with a basic understanding of conversational Italian, as most socialising is done in Italian :)

I highly recommend this project to anyone who wants to experience a true 'Commune' way of living.

It's a very calm place away from any big hustle of the cities which can be either a positive or a negative depending on what you may desire. You do have alot of free time, however, obviously as you are quite far from any major hubs, the activities are also quite limited due to it. There are many cool people residing here, however if you do not speak Italian it may pose quite a few challanges in terms of communication because even tho most of the team do speak English, they obviously still prefer to talk in Italian, and more often then not just between themselves, as volunteers just come and go

I only spent 3 days in Settevoci but I really enjoyed meeting the locals and some of the volunteers. There wasn't much to do at the time, so I managed to help with the gardening and some cleaning/organizing around the house. I didn't get to meet Annarosa because she was traveling, but volunteering is very flexible and free, there are no fixed hours and it's super chill. There is a wonderful river nearby that you must to go! Thank you for having me, I hope to come back soon and stay longer. ☺️

It was such a beautiful and enjoyable time! I loved my stay at Settevoci so much and looking forward to coming back to this place and the beautiful people that I met there.
The work was absolut fair and I was able to plan my time according to how I could work best and was valued for my contribution and always treated with kindness and respect. I have made new friends and a place I will love to come back to :)
I really enjoyed living in the community and I will especially miss the wonderful evenings where we all sit together, friends come round, laugh and talk together and get to know each o
