Roots Organic gardens and learning centre
Our project is varied, but our main aim is to build a new school for the village children and create a garden area to grow vegetables and fruit, teaching the students about organic gardening and self-sufficiency.
The volunteers would be able to assist us in creating education for the children in many ways.
My name is Sarou Hong. I was born in a rural village and have one brother and four sisters. I now have two children: Ganon, who is 12 years old, and Gawin, who is eight years old. They can speak some English and enjoy playing football.
When I was young, my father would say to me, "My son will be a teacher like his aunt because he loved his older sister so much." Then I really wanted to be a teacher. I became a teacher in 2006. I taught for almost 10 years at a public high school. I really love teaching.
I gave up teaching to become a local guide in Siem Reap, Angkor, to earn more money. This allowed me to support my brother and sisters and financially assist seven other village children in their education, which I am still doing today.
Our staff comprises three part-time volunteer teachers.
