Ranch Viskali

Join me at my cozy ranch in Jelgava, Latvia, where I’ve lived for three years, transforming the space with the help of amazing volunteers from around the world. Contribute to ongoing projects like gardening, landscaping, painting, fence repair, and creative builds to make the property even more inviting. This place is offering a relaxed, community-oriented environment surrounded by beautiful nature, with a pond, forest trails, and easy access to Jelgava and Riga.

I’m Andis, a friendly and open host who runs an adventure travel company and enjoys sports, hiking, and gardening. Alongside my partner Lelde, I’ve created a welcoming space where volunteers feel like part of a small community. I value connection but also respect personal space, ensuring you have time to work, explore, and relax. Volunteers enjoy comfortable accommodations, access to bikes, a gym and the chance to engage in varied tasks like building, weeding, cleaning, organising and creative projects. The ranch is close to stores(1.3km), train station and city (4km). Less than hour train ride to Riga, perfect for cultural outings. Volunteering includes 5 days of 5 hours work with 2 days off after that. Hours could be flexible if we agree on other schedule.

The place itself is nice and in tune with nature, but the host is not very organised. When you come over to help, he dumps all the manual and heavy labour on you and goes to the soft ones, like flower picking, instead of working alongside you. Yes, accommodation is provided, but considering how manual-intensive the work is, a meal should be provided in between work to make the volunteer feel worthwhile and appreciated.

Are you serious? You had lot of small and easy jobs to help here - picking cutted water branches, painting 5m2 wall, making birch brooms for sauna, etc . The hardest ones was gather hay from small (100m2) field, it was already raked in piles and picking 12 small piles took you full day of 5h. Second "hard" job was to dig and weed 9m2 field, that you just plucked the top vegetation and leave all roots inside - also took you full day. If you apply for farm work, be prepare to do some manual work!!

Andis and Lelde made me feel very welcome at their ranch, very lovely people! I had a comfy place to sleep and cook my food and peaceful environment to spend my free time. The ranch is surrounded by beautiful nature and forest, you can also easily make it to the river or discover the city of Jelgava. There was a bike at my disposal to go to the town and back if i needed.
The job is easy and Andis explains everything perfectly well. Everyday we did something different and i'm sure they will find fun tasks for you to do once you're there. I would truly recommend this experience!

What a beautiful place to be, I really enjoyed my stay here. Was so nice to spend time surrounded by nature with my hands in the earth. A refreshment for the soul.
The accommodation was really comfortable and Andis and Lelde are such lovely people who made me feel right at home from the start.
The work is fun and varied, with flexible hours which pass very quickly so you still have time for yourself each day. There's a gym and a pond to swim in, and you can borrow a bike to get to town. Plus the hourly train to Riga is only 2.50€.
A wonderful experience, would highly recommend.

One of the best service/travel experiences of my life. Andis and Lelde and lovely people who are friendly, funny, and are genuinely interested in showing you Latvian culture while learning about your own. Tasks involved gardening, weeding, leveling, cleaning, and building. I have never enjoyed digging a hole as much as I have here - the work is truly gratifying.

The property is like a little piece of country only 10 mins from the city center (by car). You can use the bikes to go to and from the city or Bolt scooters. There are plenty of trails in the forest behind the property. Also sauna!

This trip was my first Worldpackers experience and I’m not disappointed. I’m a French boy and I staid for a week and I did some simple tasks like moving wood for example. So the accommodation with Andis and Lelde was very agreable. In addition they gave me advice to visit somewhere. Really nice experience
