Pyrenees Hideaway

Enjoy one of the most unspoilt places in Europe, we have mountains, forest, rivers and nature in all her glory. Share this bounty with us and help us maintain what we have. Serres Sur Arget is 15km from a medieval town with deep historic connections. With easy access to Toulouse and the principality of Andorra this location is full of scenic and inexpensive train routes even to places like Barcelona. Included in this region are some of the world's oldest prehistoric cave paintings within a one hour drive. Among the outdoor activities you can use my old bicycles, keep in mind that those may need repairs to get them up and running. As mentioned earlier the mountains surround this landscape so feel free to explore the many trails in the area. It is possible to rent a canoe close to Foix to enjoy a paddle down the cool river during our warm summer days. I can pick you up and drop you off at the train station located in Foix if needed. I do have space for folks with their camper vans or if you'd prefer a space for your tent.

Retired professional looking to give back and share her lifestyle with pro active, interested, eager people. I am always looking for open minded people who want to learn and experience living in a beautiful part of South France. Please be on good manners, being tidy is greatly appreciated, and as is your positive energy. I love to cook so bring your appetite! I prepare lunch and dinner, and always am delighted to receive a little help in setting the table and cleaning up after the meal. If you like to share a special dish or whip up a batch of cookies please feel free to do so. Here I like to focus our working energies on four 6 hour days. Typically the day starts at 900, lunch at 1300, 1400 return to our tasks for the remaining 2 hours. As the preparation for the volunteers can take a little time, and as we settle into our routine, I really find a stay of three weeks to be most beneficial, but of course as in the past some volunteers have stayed an entire year!

It was amazing experience. I really enjoyed homestay with Virginia and her dog. Virginia is smart and lovely person with great skills of cooking.
The work I did was pretty interesting. I was painting kitchen and terrace, gardening and helping around the house.
I spent a lot of time exploring beautiful surroundings of pyrenees heights and medieval town Foix. I had plenty of free time, witch I spent visiting Toulouse, Carcassonne and Barcelona.
I really enjoyed time I spent there and hope once to come back

We had a wonderful two weeks in the Pyrenees with Virginia. The work was mostly cleaning, gardenwork, and some painting, which was easy enough to do. Virginia was a joy to be around, and we loved listening to the wonderful stories she had to tell during lunch and dinner which were delicious! It was also amazing to have 3 days off a week, which we spent visiting Foix, which Virginia kindly drove us to and picked us up from. Thanks so much for an amazing time!

We loved our stay in Foix. Virginia is a warm and welcoming person, and a great cook, and it was lovely to get to know her over our stay. The hours were very consistent, starting at 9 untill lunch with a long break, and then 2-4 in the afternoon. Virginia drove us into Foix on our days off and we had a great time exploring in Foix as well as Toulouse and other places. We would highly recommend staying with Virginia!

Volunteering at Barry and Virginia's house was amazing! Basically they were moving house, so the job was moving furniture and cleaning. The atmosphere in the house was always fun and pleasant.
All the food was provided by them and was extremely delicious. I ate several typical dishes such as Cassoulet from France and Fish and Tips from England.
I had three days off a week, which was wonderful for getting to know other places in the south of France!
It was my first time volunteering and I couldn't have asked for a better experience, I'm very grateful for the days I was able to help them!
