Old Mill Hostel

Westport is a very exciting place to be, especially during busy seasons. Volunteers are able to see this up close as the hostel is located in the heart of the town centre. Volunteers have their own separate accommodation (including bathroom) from the hostel so it's great to have your own space. You will volunteer for 5 days per week, roughly 4/5 hours depending on the day. This is often much less as all morning tasks can be completed faster depending on the number of checkouts. You will also have 2 days off where you are free to wander about Westport and its surroundings - this is also possible on the days when you are working.

We like for volunteers to feel like part of the team from the very beginning. Living in a hostel is a dynamic environment and there is always something new and interesting to discover. We aim for our volunteers to enjoy their time in Westport as much as possible for however long they stay with us. As it is a family-run hostel, there are only a few members of staff and this allows volunteers to develop close and interpersonal links with us all.

This was my first time volunteering and I had an amazing experience at the hostel! The work was very easy and most days we finished early so we had a lot of free time to explore the surrounding areas. As soon as I arrived I felt very welcomed and during my stay I made some wonderful friends! Westport is a cozy town with an amazing atmosphere and I can't even describe how much I miss it.

I really enjoyed my time in Westport ...the work was easy, and I had plenty of time to do other things. Immersing myself in the culture was invaluable. The atmosphere and music in the pubs of this town are unique; you won't find them anywhere else in the world....the best part? I made lifelong friends, not just volunteers but locals as well...beside If you enjoy nature this is your place !

It’s my second time staying at the Old Mill Hostel, absolutely love the place! Niamh is so lovely and helpful whenever you need her, it’s easy to feel right at home here! The other volunteers make you feel welcome immediately after arriving as well. The work is not to hard and very fairly distributed with two days off and not to many hours per day, you’ll have lots of time to explore the area. There’s a lot of stuff around to do in your free time and Westport is full of lovely people and places!
One of my favourite places to stay honestly I would recommend it to everyone!!

My time at the Old Mill Hostel has been so so so great! I was initially very nervous as this was my first Worldpackers experience however Niamh and the other hostel workers made me feel at home right away. The work was very easy and there were many days where we finished early, leaving us heaps of free time to explore Westport and the surrounding area. The hostel is also in a great location, being very central and close to the best pubs, shops, and nature in Westport. Overall I had a wonderful stay at the Old Mill Hostel and made some incredible friends both local and international!😊
