Naucrates Tropical Island Conservation (N-TIC)
Please note - to cover all the running costs of the project (as a non-profit organisation), the cost to the volunteer is 335 euros per week - discount offered if you stay for more than 3 weeks. More information regarding this, what's included and not included, etc., is provided on request.
The project has been protecting sea turtles, their nesting beaches and living habitat for over 24 years. It is not only sea turtles, this is their main focus. Over the years we have created many activities in order to study and help conserve the nature on the island. Our staff, interns and volunteers have helped to study and conserve mangrove, coral reefs, sea grass beds, beaches and birds. As well as this, they have supported local communities through education, conservation awareness, small scale business etc.
I have experience of working on and running turtle projects for over 25 years, in various countries but mostly on Kho Phra Thong in Thailand. There is a small team of volunteer staff who help to organise the running of our small organisation, carrying out bookings, advertising, social media, research, etc. More information on these volunteer staff will be added to this site shortly.
On most of the days we involve our guests in their project activities too. The team is happy to take our guests for early morning walks on the beach to monitor sea turtle nesting or for boat surveys to Koh Ra Island that is located to the north of Koh Phra Thong. And every week we are conducting beach clean up events with the team so that everyone, from children to adults, can have a chance to make a real difference on the Island by clearing out our local beaches from trash.
