Lajerpote Garden

Lajer Pote Permaculture Garden, volunteers will experience a meaningful journey into sustainable living, environmental education, and community empowerment. We are located in a peaceful village surrounded by nature in East Java, Indonesia. Our project focuses on ecological learning, character building, and spiritual growth for local children through outdoor education and permaculture-based farming.
As a volunteer, you’ll help in gardening, assisting with nature-based education for kids, and creating eco-projects that support local resilience. In return, you'll be part of a warm, inclusive community, enjoy traditional food, and learn about Javanese culture in a natural and respectful environment.
If you’re passionate about sustainability, education, and connecting with local life, Madrasah Rimba is the perfect place to grow, give back, and be inspired.

We are a small and passionate team of educators, farmers, and community members dedicated to building a better future through environmental education and permaculture. Our core team consists of local youth, teachers, and volunteers who share a deep respect for nature and spiritual values. At Madrasah Rimba, volunteers will be treated as family. We value kindness, open communication, and mutual respect. You will be welcomed into our daily routines, join shared meals, and be supported in learning local customs and language. We strive to create a warm, safe, and meaningful space where every volunteer feels appreciated and empowered to contribute. Whether you’re helping in the garden, teaching children, or simply sharing your story, we will walk beside you with guidance, gratitude, and genuine friendship.

It was an amazing experience from the first moment! Mr. Achmad Tauvick and his wife will make sure you feel welcomed, comfortable and not hungry during your stay. 😋They prepare delicious local food from very early in the morning and will make sure you feel satisfied and good helping you with anything you need or request. The working hours were really flexible so you'll have time for yourself and for connecting with the students and people from the village. Also you can borrow bikes or the motorbike if you have a license, otherwise they will be happy to take you to visit many places around.

Mr. Taufik, his family, and the whole village were very friendly and welcoming. I enjoyed my stay and would definitely recommend it to anyone who truly wants to see what living in a village is like. I hoped to to get to teach more English than I actually did but this was partially due to the weather and being there during the rainy season. Overall a great experience.

We had an incredible experience with Mr. Taufik's family. We received a wonderful welcome in a quiet and comfortable home. The village is beautiful, and the garden offers peace and tranquility. Mr. Taufik offered us a great program focused on the children's education, Indonesian culture, and farming. He was attentive and very protective. Thank you to him and the entire village; we highly recommend this experience and will definitely return.

My experience at Lajerpote Garden was totally amazing because I learned a lot about culture, cuisine, and sustainability. Mr. Achmad has an interesting program related to education for children, where he teaches ecological principles and English as a second language. In addition, the hospitality from him and his family was absolutely wonderful — they have such good souls. Highly recommended, 100 per cent!

it was a very new and unusual experience for me, i’m really grateful to Taufik and Rohma for providing me with everything i needed. thank you guys for being so understanding, patient, loving, and supportive all the time, you are friends & family to me! locals are also very nice, although sometimes it was unusual to communicate only by vibe with some people, yet there are few people i will remember forever.

i do recommend this experience to everyone who wants to experience something new and close to the roots, as you gonna be surrounded by beautiful nature and people:)
