La Aldea. Salud, arte y conciencia

La Aldea is a cozy, artistic home surrounded by jungle in Cancún. It’s not a formal center, but a peaceful space where a small community lives, and where we occasionally host activities like temazcal, yoga, or meditation.

We welcome volunteers who want to help with gardening, cleaning, or light maintenance, in exchange for staying in a beautiful, quiet place that offers a deep connection with nature and a chance to live simply, consciously, and in good company.

La Aldea was created by Marco Alar, who lives here and envisioned it as a space for sustainable and conscious living. He now dedicates his time to holistic coaching and enjoying a relaxed, nature-connected life in the jungle of Cancún. Volunteers will be supported by Marco’s brother Carlos, who also lives in La Aldea and will be your main point of contact. You’ll stay in a cozy, adapted loft and receive daily breakfast in exchange for 5 hours of help, 5 days a week. We value respect, open communication, and a relaxed vibe. Volunteers will be treated with kindness and included as part of the community during their stay.

I found Marco to be incredibly rude, volatile, and even scary. He backtracked on multiple promises. He promised the stone house I was to live in to me and another pair of world packers at the same time and then was frustrated with me that they chose not to stay afterwards, then was rude and bullied me for the rest of my time there for refusing to do something dangerous & not in alignment with the agreed upon assignment. He never Informed me that the hotel was not in operation anymore prior to my arrival so it was a very isolated experience as well. And the place is infested with roaches.

Marco replied

Kari, you (and your daughter and cat) arrived presenting yourself as capable and willing, even creating your own task list. Soon after, you refused to complete those tasks, causing tension. I never “bullied” you, my firmness came after repeated refusal and disrespect. This is a jungle-based home, not a hotel, as described. For future volunteer experiences, I recommend being upfront about your condition, so hosts can be aware and prepared that you can become hostile and aggressive.
