I've been volunteering around South east Asia for a little while. This place is very good! The apartment is spacious. Mila is doing a great job supporting her rainy city. The tasks are clear and enjoyable. It is a great opportunity to discover a less touristy part of Taiwan. Many things to see in the city and around it. From art to nature. From temples to second hands shop. Many lovely cute cafes. And walk and discover all the little lanes / alleyways. And the food everywhere in the city is pretty good and delicious!!
Recommended. Highly.

I had a great time at KFAW! Mila is a very kind and considerate host and the work was easy and reasonable. KFAW is very willing to work w/ volunteers to bring out their strengths and interests so it helps to come in with a creative mindset and take initiative. Definitely come prepared for rain and grey skies, but we had beautiful sunny days as well. There’s lots of great hikes in the area if you’re willing to explore and walk a lot! It’s an easy bus ride to Taipei and lots of other interesting sites in the area and the schedule is flexible so you’ll have lots of time for day trips.

I volunteered with Keelung for a Walk in winter, and while Mila, the manager, was attentive and open to feedback, the experience wasn’t the best fit for me. Constant rain and cloudy weather made the city feel less lively, with limited entertainment options. Tasks felt more corporate-oriented, and cultural exchange opportunities were lacking during the off-season. The apartment facilities were basic, and the rooms had very poor insulation, making them extremely noisy. However, Keelung is well-located near beautiful spots like Shifen, Jiufen, and geoparks. Summer might be a better time to visit.

Thank you for your feedback. Keelung, as a port city, is known for its frequent rain, which we inform applicants about in advance. The accommodation and work details were clearly outlined before your arrival, and we made adjustments during your stay based on your input. While we encourage creativity and flexibility, it’s unfortunate the creative tasks you expressed interest in weren’t actively pursued. We value every participant’s efforts and will use your feedback to improve future experiences.

My time at Keelung Walk was fun, welcoming, and organized. Mila was an amazing host who made sure to be in clear communication even when she was busy with other responsibilities. However, witnessed some volunteers leave before the end of their agreements due to expectations not being met. I enjoyed the opportunities to meet fellow volunteers, explore the city, and meet the locals. Overall, I enjoyed my time in Keelung, the time of year and the off-season for tours made things less engaging than previous volunteers.

I had a great time at Keelung For a Walk. It was amazing going participating in the tours and learning about the hidden histories inside the city. The hours were very flexible, and unless it was a scheduled tour or arrival, I could manage my time pretty much however I felt. Since it was off season when I arrived, I was allowed a room all to myself, which was also greatly appreciated. The host Mila was very friendly, but was also fairly hands-off with distributing tasks or welcoming newcomers as she's usually very busy. However, she was also always quick to respond to any questions I had.
