Kebun Kali Code

🌍 Volunteer Program for Kebun Kali Code – Join the Movement!

πŸ“Œ Step 1: Who We Are – About Kebun Kali Code

🌱 Kebun Kali Code is a community-led initiative in Ledok Tukangan, Yogyakarta, dedicated to fostering sustainable urban farming, enhancing food sovereignty, and addressing the clean water crisis.

πŸ’‘ Why does this matter?
β€’ 🏭 The village is in an urban industrial area, where pollution affects water, food, and health.
β€’ πŸ₯« Many families can’t afford healthy food and rely on instant meals, leading to diseases and malnutrition.
β€’ πŸ’§ The river is polluted, and people struggle with access to clean drinking water.
β€’ πŸ“š Children lack access to proper education, so we created a community-based learning space.

πŸ“Œ Our mission: To empower the community through sustainable agriculture, clean water access, education, and a strong volunteer network.

πŸ“Œ Step 2: Our Current Project – Restoring the Community Hub 🏑

🚧 What are we working on right now?
Right now, we are restoring a community houseβ€”a space where:
βœ”οΈ 🏠 Volunteers can stay and contribute to our projects.
βœ”οΈ πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦ The community can come together for education, meetings, and cultural activities.
βœ”οΈ 🌱 Future sustainability programs (like clean water & organic farming) can be developed.

πŸ“Œ What’s the challenge?
We’ve received our first donations πŸŽ‰, but we still need more resources to complete the restoration.

πŸ“Œ How can YOU help?
We are searching for volunteers who can support us in:
βœ… πŸ“± Social Media & Storytelling β†’ Helping us share our mission with the world.
βœ… πŸ’° Fundraising & Outreach β†’ Finding donors & partners who believe in our cause.
βœ… πŸ“ Project Planning & Concept Development β†’ Helping us organize and structure the next steps.
βœ… πŸ”¨ Construction & Practical Skills β†’ People with knowledge in renovation, organization, and space design.

🌎 Everyone is welcomeβ€”whether you want to help online or in-person, there’s something you can do!

πŸ“Œ Step 3: Who We Are Looking For – How You Can Help 🀝

πŸ’‘ We need volunteers with different skills! Choose what you love:

πŸ“± 1. Social Media & Digital Volunteers
β€’ πŸ“Έ Help us manage Instagram, Facebook & TikTok.
β€’ πŸŽ₯ Create engaging stories, reels, and updates about our work.
β€’ πŸ–ŠοΈ Help us write powerful posts & share our mission.

🎯 Best for: Writers, storytellers, content creators, designers.

πŸ’° 2. Fundraising & Outreach Volunteers
β€’ πŸ’΅ Help us create fundraising campaigns (GoFundMe, Kitabisa, etc.).
β€’ 🀝 Research and reach out to potential donors & NGOs.
β€’ 🎀 Organize community fundraising events.

🎯 Best for: Anyone passionate about activism, networking, and raising funds.

πŸ“ 3. Project Planning & Concept Development
β€’ πŸ—οΈ Help us plan the best use of space for the community.
β€’ 🌍 Develop long-term sustainability strategies for water & food security.
β€’ πŸ’‘ Research eco-friendly, low-cost solutions.

🎯 Best for: Thinkers, organizers, planners, and anyone with creative ideas.

πŸ”¨ 4. Construction & Renovation Volunteers (Coming soon – once we have enough resources!)
β€’ 🏠 Help restore and improve the community house.
β€’ πŸ› οΈ Use basic construction skills to support the renovation.
β€’ πŸ‘· Organize local community members to join the process.

🎯 Best for: Anyone with experience in construction, architecture, or design.

πŸ“Œ Step 4: What Comes Next? (Future Projects) πŸ”œ

Once we restore the community space, our next major project is:

πŸ’§ 🚰 Water Security Project β†’ We will work on installing a water filtration & rainwater collection system to give families clean drinking water.

πŸ“’ BUT FIRST, we need to complete the restoration of the space!

πŸ“Œ Step 5: How to Join the Volunteer Program?

πŸ“’ Interested in volunteering? It’s easy to get started!

1οΈβƒ£πŸ“… Choose how you want to help
2οΈβƒ£πŸŒ Join the community, meet other volunteers, and start making an impact

🌱 Who We Are – The Family Behind Kebun Kali Code We are Fitri and Anang, a family living in Ledok Tukangan, Yogyakarta, dedicated to building a sustainable, caring, and empowered community. Our journey started with a simple realizationβ€”if we don’t take action for our own community, who will? πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦ Fitri, a passionate activist, has spent years fighting for Indonesian migrant workers’ rights in Hong Kong. Her experience in women’s empowerment, social justice, and community organizing led her to return home and dedicate her life to helping families in Ledok Tukangan gain access to clean water, healthy food, and education. 🎨 Anang, an artist and environmentalist, grew up near the Code River and has witnessed firsthand the damage caused by pollution and industrial waste. Through his art, he raises awareness about environmental issues and social change, using creativity as a tool to inspire and mobilize the community. At Kebun Kali Code, we embrace openness, respect, and joyβ€”we enjoy life, care for one another, and believe in creating a space where people from all backgrounds can connect, learn, and grow together. 🌍 Kebun Kali Code is more than a projectβ€”it’s our home, our mission, and a movement for change. πŸ“’ Want to connect with us? Fitri was fantastic! We visited her work and met people from the local community. We later met and spoke to lots of young adults about climate change and women’s rights- this was very interesting. However, within the community we felt we were given little experiences, which may have been due to the rain. You can see that Fitri is committed to improving the community and I hope that she is successful. Please note that the living conditions are not to European standards.

Thank you Rowan and Charlotte, you two are very kind, helping and supporting our community activities, but unfortunately during the rainy season several schedules are postponed because of the weather which rains almost every day.

Fitr was so kind, she is an amazing cook, she even taught us how to some Indonesian food. We really enjoyed meeting local people and chatting to them. We especially enjoyed the women coming to eat at the community. However, the facilities are not up to European standards and because of the weather we didn’t do as many workshops or garden as much as expected.
But we wish Fritri the best and hope the community helps many :)

My first experience with worldpackers was truly unforgettable, thanks to the warm hospitality of Fitri and Anung. Being part of their community projects in the village was not only inspiring but also a great way to immerse myself in the local culture. I highly recommend this experience for anyone looking to connect with a community and gain a deeper understanding of the local way of life.

Kebun Kali Code gave me amazing opportunity to see real Javanis culture. Fitri and Annang welcomed me home as a part of their family. I fully felt there as a part of community. Meeting local friends helped me to understand view and perspectives Jogjakarta’s people has.
Nevertheless, you need to be aware that living conditions are not Europeans standards. Also while going there you need to be aware of the heat and humidity.
If someone is ready to give this place a chance you will contribute to the amazing community growth. All of the people in the city are open and smiling!
