Island English powered by Denkspa
At Island English, you’ll be based in Sandik, a vibrant and strategic area just outside Mataram — only 10 minutes by motorbike to the city center and 15 minutes to Senggigi Beach. It’s the perfect blend of local life and international flair.
This isn’t a remote or isolated rural village. You’ll live in a neighborhood where you can easily find cafés, shops, SIM cards, ATMs, and local markets — everything you need is within reach. Sandik is also home to a growing international community of volunteers and expats, so you’ll have plenty of chances to connect with people from around the world.
You’ll get the best of both worlds:
- A meaningful volunteer experience with local people
- A fun and social environment with global travelers
- Easy access to beaches, waterfalls, city spots, and nature
If you’re looking for a chance to make an impact without giving up comfort, connection, or adventure — this is the perfect place for you!
Island English is a community-powered English learning initiative. We’re not a large institution or formal school — instead, we are a group of local families and learners who believe that English is best learned through real connection, conversation, and cultural exchange.
Our program is open to various age groups, including:
Early learners (ages 3–5)
Young learners (ages 5–7, elementary level and reading-ready)
Teens (junior & senior high school students)
Adult learners (18+)
Learning sessions focus on interaction, confidence-building, and everyday communication rather than rigid textbooks. Classes are relaxed, friendly, and adapted to each group’s level and needs.
You will have one main coordinator as your primary point of contact. They will support you with scheduling, visa-related guidance, and general questions throughout your stay. Beyond that, you’ll be welcomed by our local community — families who are happy to help you settle in, find accommodation, and arrange meals or local catering if needed.
As a volunteer, you’ll be treated like part of our extended family — not just a teacher, but a friendly mentor, conversation partner, and role model. Your role is to share your English skills, culture, and enthusiasm through engaging sessions (usually 4-5 hours per day, mostly in the afternoon).
We welcome fluent and passionate English speakers from all backgrounds — whether you have teaching experience or simply a strong love for the language and cultural exchange. What matters most to us is your openness, consistency, and willingness to connect.
In return, you’ll experience authentic local life, meaningful relationships across different age groups, and a supportive environment where you’re truly valued as part of the community.
