Hostel JAQ takamatsu

We have many international volunteers (about 5-8) with us as well as Japanese staff members. Come join our community for a chance to forge unforgettable friendships while experiencing local Japanese events. The staff and volunteers can enjoy dinner and chat with guests from all over the world.
The working schedule can be arranged to your preference! If you would like to take a day off, we can move your shift to another day. Hostel JAQ is located next to Ritsurin Garden, about a 30-minute walk from Takamatsu station and the ferry port that will take you to the islands such as Naoshima.

We have about 10 regular staff and normally 5-8 volunteers with us at the same time. Our staff are responsible for the work at the registration and cleaning while volunteers only help with cleaning. Outside of the working hours of 10am-4pm the volunteers are free to do what they want! Volunteers get dormitory beds in a room with other volunteers and are also offered discounted meals. Of course, the laundry and kitchen are free to use outside of busy hours! Sometimes the chef may need help with dinner or breakfast preparation and that will be paid by free meal or discount meal.

I really enjoyed my stay here and met amazing people during my time. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, which created a really good atmosphere. The work is physical, not long, but quite intense , so be prepared for that. On your days off, you can explore the surroundings like osaka or other cities, although in the city of Takamatsu itself there isn’t much to do. Overall, it was a great experience!

It was great meeting Chizuru and the staff at Hostel JAQ Takamatsu. The tasks were as described with 20 hours a week of laundry/cleaning/making beds. I'm glad I got to learn some Japanese while volunteering here and I enjoyed becoming friends with the staff and fellow volunteers as well as exploring Takamatsu.

I had a great time at Hostel JAQ. The team is welcoming and the chef-made dinners were absolutely great - heavily discounted in exchange for help cleaning up, which seemed fair. I had the pleasure of meeting great volunteers, interacting with cool guests and working with a vibrant team in a lesser explored part of Japan. There were some days where the work went over the time that was detailed but this was not the norm and was only because of rain holding up laundry drying. We often finished early and had more time to explore. I recommend this host and hostel.

I loved my time at JAQ Takamatsu! The staff were all incredibly kind and made a genuine effort to get to know everyone, which made the experience feel truly welcoming. I met many wonderful people (staff, fellow volunteers, and hostel guests) and thoroughly enjoyed experiencing the local culture in a smaller part of Japan.
The work could be a bit challenging at times, mostly because of the heat and the stairs, but everything else about the experience more than made up for it. I’d recommend it to anyone!
