Heartwood Homestead

Heartwood Homestead is a mere 15 minutes from town yet tucked away on the Gonubie River valley. It is surrounded by other small farms and is just 15 minutes from a great little beach. We are entirely off-grid, utilizing rainwater, solar and awesome compost toilets. We have a wide range of animals, from ducks and chickens to pigs, sheep, cows and rabbits. We are able to provide almost all of our food needs from the farm. FYI not an ideal venue for a vegan.

We built the farm from scratch, starting in 2019. We homeschool our 3 kids and they help out on the farm. We employ 2 people part time. Volunteers and interns are housed in the loft, which overlooks the valley on the one side and the food forest on the other.

Rodger and Karen are very knowledgeable and are great at explaining and sharing that knowledge. I learned about grazing techniques, farming styles, fencing, and how to process rabbits. However, there was a high level of combativeness when any opinion or lived experience was shared with them. As a foreigner, it was extremely uncomfortable to have heated debates over everything I experience or researched on my own. There is quiet a lot of room for growth when it comes to welcoming others from foreign countries and other walks of life.

Having been involved with people from around the world for the past +25 years, we can confidently say that Jacinth was the most complicated and self absorbed person we have ever met.
No introspection, no humility, just judgment and self righteousness.
I wish Jacinth well and may he find peace
