EZ Social Hostel
Traveler's should choose to volunteer at our hostel because we offer a fun and vibrant workspace, while being a very safe environment... where everyone can enjoy meeting new people. We only ask our volunteers to perform light tasks and hope they can learn new skills and knowledge while staying with us. Penang is an amazing city and our hostel is in the heart of Georgetown where our volunteers can have the perfect opportunity to learn about our city, and Malaysia as a whole, through our other guests and staff alike.
Myself and my partner are experienced and outgoing hosts, with extensive knowledge in the hostel and hospitality industry. Our permanent staff and volunteers are fully trained and always ready to teach our new volunteers anything they can do to help us with day to day functioning of the hostel. Our volunteers will be treated with full professionalism from our staff and guests alike. They will be informed and guided about our hostel as well as Penang as a whole upon beginning their stay with us. Work hours will just be 5 hours a day, 5 days a week. Every volunteer will be guided by our team leader about everything they need to know about the hostel. They will be given their shift schedule and days off upon arriving. We don't necessarily require any prior skills from our volunteers, only that they are open minded, friendly and willing to help during their shift. Examples of tasks to perform is light cleaning, showing guests to their rooms, helping our staff to organise events, and interacting with guests during their work shift. We provide free accommodation for all our volunteers, free wifi, food allowance, free water, and one free drink daily.

I had an amazing experience. Management was incredibly friendly and flexible, and made everything run smoothly. All the staff and volunteers were welcoming, supportive, and fun to be around, which created a really positive environment.
Working with the events team was one of the best parts because it allowed me to explore the city while helping out. The bar/breakfast shifts were also really enjoyable!!!!

I had the best time at EZ Social! My experience has been so good, I extended another 2 weeks! Honestly the staff/volunteers are amazing and so welcoming, they know how to have a good time and create a positive work environment. The staff house is also very lovely, and conveniently has washing machines and dryer! The work is simple, I was on events and it was so fun to show people around Georgetown/Penang!

This is a great place to meet international travelers! The hostel hosts a nightly pub crawl where everyone goes out to local bars and meets other travelers from different hostels or locals in the area! The hostel team is amazing, and I have met very high-quality people here. The work is okay; there is minimal training and weak communication when things are expected to be done perfectly, making it stressful. One of the owners can be temperamental, and eggshells are definitely walked on when he is around. Cameras are also constantly monitored, which I felt was very invasive.

It has been an amazing time at EZ Hostel.
The people are welcoming and warm.
Besides that, the Hostel itself is great, I would go there as a guest if not as a volunteer.
I was working the breakfast shift for 1 week and thereafter behind the bar in the evening/night. Both experiences have been amazing and I can only recommend this place.

I’ve been volunteering for a year now, and EZ takes the cake. It’s a big hostel - big enough that you won’t be living with the guests, but your home will be nice, and you’ll have everything that you need, on a fundamental level.
My coworkers were great - I was surprised to have friends in their 30’s at a party hostel, but here we are, and if you don’t like to party? There’s movies during the day, breakfast is wonderful, and plenty of space to carve out your niche. There’s events every day, cheap drinks at the bar, and a home filled with heart.
