Education Centre For Community (ECC) At Wat Phrai Phrattana

Education Centre for Community in Sisaket is no ordinary volunteer school. We focus on teaching English to young monks and children from the local village for free to help them escape the harsh reality of poverty. Choosing our project will be a rewarding experience. You will get to learn about Buddhism and Thai culture by living and working amongst the locals.

We are located 75km outside of Sisaket in the countryside (near the border with Cambodia), so you will get to see everything nature has to offer as well as play with some of the many roosters the Temple has. There are various local markets where you can get food and snacks; however, we offer breakfast, lunch and dinner. We also offer Thai boxing classes and meditation with the monks for free. There are various places where you could do yoga or relax.

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE!

Please note that ECC is a non-profit NGO, and we do not make any profit from our work. The daily fee requested from volunteers is a donation that helps keep the school running and supports our mission of providing English lessons to children in need. This contribution helps cover the cost of accommodation, meals, and other necessary expenses.

The standard cost for a shared dormitory room is $9 USD per person per day. We also have couple rooms available for couples at $9 USD per person per day. For individuals who prefer more privacy and do not wish to stay in a dorm, we offer private couple rooms at $14 USD per person per day.

Please inform us in advance if you would like to stay in a couple room, as these options are limited. We are also happy to accommodate all diets, including special dietary needs.

Savuth and Savon originally founded ECC in Cambodia 2014 and have been providing a safe space for volunteers to teach children for 10 years. Recently we have expanded to Thailand as there are no English teachers available in these area's. In exchange, we are able to send 25 Cambodian children to the university in Thailand to learn with a free scholarship.

It was a unique experience — bonding with kids, teaching monks, practising my teaching skills, meditating, and even doing Muay Thai daily. The place blends rare elements into something special, but it also has challenges: figuring out classes on our own, not knowing students’ levels, and teaching 5h/day can be tiring. Worth it if you enjoy adapting, stepping out of your comfort zone, and working independently. Check if there’ll be other volunteers — it can make a big difference. Overall, it’s a mix of amazing moments and real challenges!

My experience was both challenging and rewarding. I loved getting to know each class, joining monks in evening meditations, and trying Muay Thai! While the community was welcoming, there was a lack of clarity around scheduling —our agreed two days off per week weren’t honoured. Teaching without much guidance was tough, especially with language barriers, but it pushed me to be resourceful and adaptable. Despite the challenges, I’m grateful to have contributed to the students' English education and experience another side of Thailand. Thank you Nady for your kindness and delicious food!

Such a great experience to stay at Wat Phrai Phatthana monastery. Surrounded by Buddhist temples and roosters and living amongst the monks, nuns, and young monks was so peaceful. It was such a special occasion to meditate and have breakfast with the monks and nuns.
ECC will always hold a special place in my heart. It was such an honor to teach English to the young monks and all the kids who were so appreciative and respectful.
So grateful for Channa & Nady who do an amazing job running ECC. This organization is changing the lives of the community and making an impact for the future.

Such an incredible and rewarding experience!!! It was so amazing to be able to live and interact with the local community while also helping to teach English at the school. The kids are AMAZING and it was honestly so so hard to say goodbye. If I didn’t already have a flight back to my home country I would have stayed longer. If you want a true immersive experience that you can contribute to but also learn from, this is it!!!
